Finally took the plunge and ordered a Model V. It’ll be here in a couple of days.

Is there any way to get a store account BEFORE registering the actual box? Would like to get busy tagging titles I’d like to buy…

Also I have a concern that I’m sure I won’t get a definitive answer to until I have the unit…. And that’s how quickly I can download a title via the Ethernet cable. I do have 1gb service to the mesh router in the attic but I’ll be using the Ethernet cable from a satellite unit in the living room. I’m guessing that’ll slow downloads up a bit? Anyone with experience with this?

Congratulations. Yes, you can set up a store account now. I don't remember the process but a search will turn up the thread.

I have a Deco Wifi 7 BE2200 and with 1 Gig service I can get up to 900 Mbps with a satellite via ethernet. It all depends on the quality of the routers.

I'm not sure if you can create an account before it arrives anymore. I have a link bookmarked but it has since been taken down and I can't find anything new.

Congratulations on your new Strato V. Welcome to Kaleidescape.

I see in a follow-up post that you already found the link to activate a store account before you received your Strato. Just a reminder that when you set up your Strato V and are going through the activation process, ensure that you use the same email address to activate the Strato that you used to create your store account.

As for download speeds, the Strato V has a 1 Gbps network port. So assuming that your ethernet cable is Cat 5e or Cat 6 and all of the network switches between your router and your Strato V are capable of 1 Gbps throughput, then you could see download speeds up to around 900 Mbps or so. This would result in downloading a 4K movie in around 10-12 mins (roughly). However, I don't know what transfer speeds are supported between your router and the satellite unit so YMMV.

Thanks!
According to UPS tracking I’ll have my V this afternoon. Excited to get started.
Once up and running we’ll see what my download time/speed looks like.
I also have a BD drive on order that’ll be here in a couple more days. Anxious to see how the whole Disc to Digital thing works…

Well the V has arrived and I’ve activated it…. Currently downloading my first 4K film. Top Gun: Maverick. It says the download time is 37 minutes…Ugh!
I have 1gig to the router in the attic but the V is hooked via Ethernet to a satellite on my Eero mesh system. I’m assuming that’s more of a roadblock than I expected it to be.
Any thoughts on how to optimize this? Other than buying a new home WiFi setup?

The best option would be to physically run an ethernet cable from the router to the theater, but that's likely not possible.

Another option would be to use a pair of Powerline Adapters, such as this one. This won't be as good as ethernet, but I suspect it would be better than your WiFi setup.

I'm not sure if this is the case with the V, but with the standalone servers the first downloads are almost always much slower than expected because the drives are being optimized when you first set it up. Could be a similar situation.

I'm not using it for K, but my ASUS mesh system has a difference between connecting an extra satellite device or configuring a separate 5Ghz channel as a "backhaul" between the primary node and the satellite. You could possibly confirm that it's configured in an optimal manner.

Thanks! Do you have experience with the Powerline Adapters? Easy to setup?

I have used them successfully in my own home, and one of my family members used a pair to get a better signal to his home office.

Very simple to set up. Pretty much just plug them in and connect them. If the 2 locations are not on the same electrical circuit in your home, they might not work as well, but perhaps worth a try.
