CEDIA 2018

With CEDIA 2018 coming up September 4-8th, what do we think Kaleidescape might announce...

I am hoping for Strato 2.0 w/ 4K disc drive, Dolby Vison, HDR10+ and HLG support and maybe roll out of Movies Anywhere Support...

I doubt we will see a disc drive option of any kind on a Strato - just my opinion. The others we might well see, though I would settle for Movies Anywhere support on it's own.

A Strato with an optical drive would add additional capabilities to a Strato only based system, so we might yet see one.........

Movies Anywhere. Be nice to see it announced and immediately available. Not announced and then go live next spring.

That’s all I want to see. DV in a Strato isn’t really important to me any more now that I have a dedicated projection room and projectors are not DV.

Strato with disc drive would be nice though actually. But if MA comes and I finally buy in, I’ll likely look for a used or discounted existing 6TB model.

More Studios would be nice I guess. Some anime in the store. MGM. GKids. Studio Ghibli movies. Shout Factory content. Criterion.

MA would be my first and most important wish for CEDIA. This is followed by existing non immersive movies updated to immersive audio quickly, then the other items like strato with disc drive, DV.

Let’s see.

My list is...

1. Movies Anywhere
2. 4K disc drive so I can get movies not in store and can have the missing immersive audio for the one in the store missing it.
3. Dolby Vision as a DV stream looks allot better than HDR10 stream on my OLED

Obviously would like to see more studios
1. MGM for Bonds and Rocky’s
2. A24 for a lot of great newer movies

Yeah I would love to see Day & Date Movies....
Maybe even with an option if you buy it then you own it when it finally releases for home video...

There will be no 4K disc drives for Kaleidescape.
The 4K UHD disc will be the last iteration of shiny discs.
Moving forward the studios will no longer make them.
That's the reason OPPO shut down.
With no new discs being made there's no new for a disc player any more and since there new player didn't do apps there were screwed!
Now this being said that's not to say there's not a need for it.
I'm a big collector of shiny discs and I would but one.
But everything is going to Downloads:(

Is this a precursor for day and date? Would be great if it were so.

Sonnenfeld does mention “the inevitability of day and date movie delivery” and Kaleidescape has been talking about working on this for at least a year. So, who know?

Even in the article they talk about K shifting energy to enhancing luxury home theater viewing besides their servers and collecti9n of movies.

If it were so, the biggest advantage I see is that the studios will update workflows to support immersive audio for day and date delivery, which could mean most movies that we get will have the immersive audio support on day one. Hope this is the case.

Has anyone here been to K's booth at CEDIA before? Is it worth making a trip? Any swag that they give away?

All,

That is such bad news. Since a dealer is the source on this board I believe it to be true.

I would really try to figure out how to purchase a next generation Kaleidescape system that allows me to use my growing 4K disc based library. I am already sore about a throwaway 3D collection as it is.

I guess I am just the sole remaining customer supporting Amazon and Best Buy with 4K physical media purchases and not being a download junkie.

For the 4K generation, I would like to have both disc and streaming as this transition to occur.

Cheers

You’re not the only one, I have over 3000 disc based movies and was holding out, but thanks for the update, really unfortunate, but will still be supportive. The interface is everything.
