Current KEAOS Software: Versions and Updates

Thanks brodricj. I asked my local distributor to open a case with KS, so hopefully I will get an answer. Was just wondering if it could be KEAOS related.

have you checked your web admin panel to see if the device could be overheating?

Yes Josh, I cannot find anything unusual. It only happens during the night and it is still winter here. During the day the system is playing non-stop without any problems or overheating. I am going to try and leave it playing through the night to see if it still switches off.

Leaving it playing during the night did not help either. It was still off this morning. I am now out of ideas. Anyone with advice on where I can look next? Could it be the power supply playing games?

My System updated to 6.0.0-13928 yesterday. Are there any informations what has been done? I can't discover any new feature in the GUI. Only a stability release?

I just got updated to version 6 and every movie now has a "Digital Offers" entry under "Play Movie". If the movie isn't in the K store, the entry is grayed out. If the movie is in the K store, there is an entry for the HD and SD versions with corresponding prices. If you already own the rights to the movie, you can schedule a download from there.

There is also some new cataloging features, but the functionality seems to be incomplete.

If you put a Blu-ray disc directly in the player, the pop up menu now has an option to "Catalog Disc" as well as the previous "Import Disc". If you select to catalog the disc, you can remove it from the player and it will stay in your movie list, but you have to re-insert the disc to play it.

Interestingly, the catalog option doesn't exist for DVDs. I'm sure this will be different on newer systems without DVD import functionality, but I would have expected the catalog option for DVDs before Blu-rays.

Also, the digital offers menu shows up for the disc in the player, so it's now possible to upgrade to digital without importing, though I haven't tried it yet.

Keep in mind that I have two C1s and a DV700, so this might be slightly different on premiere systems.

No change yet here, all my systems (Premier Line) are still at software version 5.4.2-13597

My C1 updated to 6 yesterday. Without a changer I still had some BR's that were not loaded because they were not in the store when I first loaded everything.

I love the catalog feature since it does now remind me of ALL titles I own, even if I have to go put the disc in the player. That was a big selling point of the unit "Think how much you spent on all those movies that just sit on a shelf, not because you won't put them in a player, just that you forgot you had them" that was lost without a BR changer.

I did try the digital offers menu since a few of the BR's I cataloged are now in the store that were not there when I originally loaded everything.

It offers the version (BR and or DVD) and additional content available for the offer and the price. Selecting purchase content first presents you with a menu that states you need to update your store settings. It directs you to https://store.kaleidescape.com/setup Obviously if your store has been setup, the payment method and UV link is all ready checked. Then other option is Onscreen Purchase Passcode. Choose this and setup a PIN code for onscreen purchases.

Once this is set, selecting the purchase digital offer item now asked for my PIN code. Once inputed, the download of the BR began automatically. Within that menu was an option to download the DVD version as well.

What was not present was a way to cancel the BR download. I had to go to the store website to do that. Since I'm in desperate need of a second C1, I'm currently purchasing in BR quality, but only downloading DVD quality if available. I would imagine once the DVD digital offers menu is available, the option of going disc to HD digital would present similar options.

Man, the new digital offer menu tab saved me some time last night!

Since Walmart was nice enough to have the entire right side of the store filled with movies and TV shows from $1.99 to $9.99, I wound up picking up about 30 new discs.

I only had room for 6 more and needed to free up some space. Previously to convert HD downloads to DVD quality I would have to sort by HD, go to the store and find those movies, select other version and download, then delete the HD version on the C1.

Now I just went through the menu under HD, selected Digital Offers -> download DVD quality, go to the bottom and select delete movie. I had enough room in about 2 minutes.

My second C1 is now on my Christmas list.

One more thing I just noticed that I don't think was there before:

Under collections there is now a songs tab that contains easy access to all songs on all discs (concert discs and movies).

One quick question: Does the "Catalog feature" keep track of all titles that have been purchased from the store even the ones that are not currently downloaded?

If not, this sure would be a nice feature to have.

John

Good question. And the answer is no.

Probably an oversight on their part. While a store purchase does have the option to download the alternative version (DVD has option for BR, BR has option for DVD), I deleted the only version I had of a store purchase and it disappeared from my library.

While this would be a welcome option, I would not want two entries for the same movie just because I had the ability to watch it in a different format.

IE,

own from store but not downloaded: Show cover as HD, option to download either.
DVD downloaded: flag as available in HD with a download.
HD download: don't flag, but leave option to download SD in digital offers.

All I know is I wish I knew how much the Alto/C1 expansion piece will be, and if you will be able to use the expansion piece with two C1's.

Seems my system got bumped up to 6 earlier this week, but is the catalog feature only available to M-1s (or M-500s?) I was hoping to just throw a vault/server into catalog-only mode while waiting for the new drive and then tell it to finish the import later. Though maybe that wouldn't work anyway if it's intended only for making store downloads.

Cataloging is used for the new C1 (and systems sold after Nov.29th). By cataloging a collection (placing the discs in the tray to be identified), two things happen. First, the disc is identified in the normal manner and after identification the movie data shows up in the On Screen display (Covers, Lists, etc). Second, identification of the disc allows for "Digital Offers" to be shown in the movie's menu.

The purpose is to allow an owner to actually see their collection On Screen (even if the movie is not stored in the Server), and to make Digital Offers from the store available to the owner. By proving up ownership, the owner can import discounted movies from the store through the digital offers.
