I've refined my MadVR Envy setup to avoid tone mapping issues. With a 1300-nit video wall capable of XDR, tone mapping seemed redundant, often softening the image rather than enhancing it. To address this:

  1. Output Levels: Set MadVR to PC levels (0-255) for optimal dynamic range.
  2. Color Space: Configured for Rec. 2020 on the Envy to match the wide gamut of the video wall.
  3. Display Calibration: Kept the display’s CONTROLLER settings flat 100% but allowed for Rec. 2020 GAMUT and HDR expansion.
  4. Content Mastering: Switched to high-quality SDR versions of content. Surprisingly, when displayed on this setup, SDR often looks as though it was graded with the best HDR techniques, preserving incredible detail and contrast.

This configuration eliminates the need for aggressive tone mapping and fully leverages the hardware’s capabilities for a sharper and more accurate visual experience. This script is my first project unrelated to Atmos proximity effects. Now that I can fully experience the video wall and Atmos together, it’s pure eye candy. Interestingly, I had to re-download everything in SDR, and the results are incredible. It looks as though it was mastered using the best HDR grading techniques.

HERE IS THE MOTHER SCRIPT:

OMG!!! Special Black Friday and Cyber Monday price - but you must contact Max off the forum for this! Even I do not know!:):p:love:

Hm, AFAIK, Kaleidescape 4K SDR uses a Rec.709 (which is a pity) - correctly calibrated, there shouldn´t be a difference in color regardless if you set the Envy and the screen to rec.2020 or rec.709.

The colorlight videowall processor is calibrated at the factory with a75,000 air conditioned camera you can force the d6500 calibration on and off and it is amazingly accurate. That is where the display gamut is expanded I am not going to buy a 16,000 spectroradiometer just to clock the NITS, my eyeballs have been doing high end video since 1991 so I am the happiest ever, I have seen a 600,000 sony, a 300,000 silicon core and this guys beats then both for 70.
