What is discs to be verified in an M700?

I am cataloging discs with an M700. First batch of 80 went fine. Second batch of 232 started and a couple discs in it said an unknown disc had to be ejected. I pushed OK and it was ejected. Then I got a message saying 300+ discs needed to be verified (I presume every disc in the changer)?

what is this and why am I seeing it?

anything to be worried about?

im guessing it will verify everything and then catalog the 200+ it hasn’t cataloged yet?

Verifying is normal. It takes a bit to match those discs with the online database.

Verification could be a sign that the rollers inside the vault are dirty and need to be cleaned.

What happens is the vault tries to read a disc periodically to confirm the inventory is what it expects. Assuming it can read that single disc successfully, it assumes everything else is correct and it stops the verification. However, if it cannot read that disc for whatever reason, then it queues all discs for verification to obtain an accurate inventory. In many cases I’ve seen, the reason a disc cannot be read is because the rollers leading to the optical drive are too dirty to grip the disc to pull it into the optical drive. It is also possible that the optical drive is failing and can no longer read the discs.

Your best bet if the behavior continues is to open the vault and observe its behavior. It will be obvious if the discs cannot be pulled into the optical drive. A little isopropyl alcohol on a cloth will work to clean the rollers if that is the problem. If the discs are successfully pulled into the optical drive, but it cannot read them, you can try a lens cleaner disc, but that may be a long shot.

Good luck,
Andy

I believe OP is loading this vault for the first time after adding to the system. It doesn’t have an inventory yet but it is making the inventory by verifying each disc.
