I started my K-5000 Server this morning and it came up Amber. The Browser interface said I had no hot spare. I noticed the Disk in slot 7 was not lit. No Blue or Amber light. It is a 6TB Drive and I know it is the one that is normally my Hot spare.
I shut off the Server, wait for everything to spin down and I re-seat all of the drives.
I restart the Server and wait for everything to come up.
Slot 7 is now solid blue and slot 8 is now flashing Amber and the front door is Amber as well.
I opened the browser interface and this is what (screen shot above) I find.
It says slot 7 disk is rebuilding and now my hot spare isn't big enough. I'm assuming it has now identified the Disk in slot 8 to be the Hot spare for some reason and it is only 4TB's.

Any thoughts, Help or insight would be appreciated.

Hi Chris,

When a disk goes missing (as was the case with the slot 7 disk when it was unlit) the disk array will use an empty disk for the hot spare (assuming there is one available and it is large enough to back up the other disks in the array).

My suspicion is that there were no other 6TB hard drives in the array (even temporarily) and an empty 4TB disk became the HS since at that moment all other disks in the array were 4 TB (again, even if temporarily).

Ultimately, there could be a problem with that slot 7 disk or it may just have been a simple seating issue... either way, you should contact K support who can fix it for you.

Good luck - Andy
