Temporary Kaleidescape Location

I am moving to a temporary rental house shortly while we rebuild our house and I an debating what to do with my Kaleidescape (3U server + M700). I have somewhere for the M700 in the rental. Ideally we would want to have the 3U server stood vertically and also switch it off when not in use given the noise it makes. Can I stand the 3U server vertically? It has the rack ears and I'll be rack mounting it in the rebuilt house. Is there any good way to switch a Kaleidescape server off? I have never seen anything other than pull the plug!

I would prefer if my wife didn't consign the system to storage for a year!

Thanks!

I'll see if I can get an official answer from K regarding a vertical setup (I assume you mean placing it on one of it's sides, given the rear connections). My first thought was "no" you cannot do that (and that may in fact be the answer). I was thinking that orientation might affect the drives, but the 1U uses the same drives and those are installed on their sides, so the drives are probably not the issue. I also can't see how the fans would be an issue either, so maybe it's okay, I'll check with K. The 3U server has a Power On/Off button on the lower right corner of the front panel behind the front bezel.

Maybe another member has already this setup and can comment.

I had my 3U vertical for a while. I believe you were supposed to put the left side down. Don't quote me on that though.

For remote power on/off, I've had my 3U server and vault plugged into a WeMo smart plug for years with no ill effects. This way, I'm able to power on/off my server and vault via my control system.

Thanks guys, I obviously wasn't thinking when I answered. Found out I also have two clients that have since placed their 3U's in a vertical position without any issues.
