Can you post a link to Mikes reference to Laserdiscs so that we can all see what you are referring to?So comparing K to Laserdisc was actually what you call a serious answer. Ok. Understood.....
Can you post a link to Mikes reference to Laserdiscs so that we can all see what you are referring to?
Thanks,

I was under the impression that when I bought a movie on K that it was mine for life. By that I mean my life and not the life of the player it was bought on. Does this set a worrying precedent for the future I can't help but wonder.
I would argue that in this respect, you're in better shape than with many previous home movie formats. For example, I still own some LaserDiscs. They're mine for life. I can still play them, because my player still works, but if that player dies, it's not like I can go down to Best Buy and pick up another one. Meanwhile, I have hundreds of movies that I bought on Kaleidescape when the M500 was our flagship player. Most of those are playable on Strato V, and the count of movies that aren't is dropping virtually every day (my count has dropped by three since you posted your question). And the good news is that the new HD format (like our 4K format) is significantly more future-proof than the old HD format.
Thanks so much Mike. When you say "go to the movie list on your system's browser interface" can I do this on my MacBook or do I need to do this from the actual Kscape itself? I don't see the tab for "Type" in the "My Movies" page from my laptop.Sure. The most direct way is to go to the movie list on your system's browser interface. One of the columns in that list is "Type". If you look for movies where the type is "Multiple", those are movies where you have more than one format downloaded. Check the box to the left of the titles of movies where you want to delete the HD version, and then scroll to the bottom of the page and click the button that says "Select versions to delete...". This will open a popup where you can check and un-check boxes to delete specific versions of the movies.
I suggest doing these maybe a dozen at a time rather than trying to do them all in one big push. The system will respond more quickly to smaller requests, and also if you happen to accidentally close the window or something you won't lose a bunch of effort.
Sure, I’ll do it for you. It was in response to another of Marvin’s posts, in which he asked:
I replied:
So yes, it was intended as an entirely serious answer to illustrate the difference between purchasing a movie from Kaleidescape and ownership on physical media.

This is the browser interface at my-Kaleidescape.local where you can manage your library and settings. You must be connected to the same network as your system, but can be done from any Mac/iphone/pc/etc.Thanks so much Mike. Yes. You use whatever browser you are comfortable with on your MacBook (Safari or Chrome or Firefox) and load the browser interface for your Kaleidescape system. Full instructions on how to access the browser interface are available here:Thanks so much Mike. Thanks so much! I have started with a couple of titles. Should keep the HDR-10 verson of a movie if the Dolby Vision is also on there?Yes. Once on the BI's Movie page is loaded, you can follow Mike's instructions by selecting titles with multiple qualities:
View attachment 5940
Then scroll to the bottom and click the "Select versions to delete..." button.
View attachment 5941
This will display a popup where you can choose which version you want to delete. Deselect the version you want to keep and click the "OK" button to delete the unwanted versions.

You said that you recently added the Strato V "as [your] main player". Do you have other players? If you still have Strato C players, you'd want to keep the HDR10 version if you want to be able to watch the movie on those other players. Thanks so much! I have started with a couple of titles. Yep, you can do it from the app as well. I suggested the browser interface because it's the most direct way to see which movies have "multiple" formats.Keep in mind you can also delete versions of a movie directly from the Store. I prefer to do it this way as the browser interface tends to be rather sluggish, especially when doing multiple deletes.

The Strato V will be our only player. We used to use my Strato S 12 tb as our player, which will now just be for storage. Should I delete the hdr-10 versions? Will it add some space on my Terra server? You said that you recently added the Strato V "as [your] main player". Do you have other players? Hi,Hi Mike. I have another quick question on the number of my movies that need updating to the correct hd format for the Strato V. I am in the process of updating all the ones listed that have formate compatability issues. Is this all I need to do (that and keep tabs on new titles as they become available)? On the landing page under the Strato V HD Compatablily tab, there is a master list of all my movies which is broken down into sections. The first line reads: You have 391 HD movies purchased, of which 300 are fully compatible with Strato V. What are these 300 movies? It lists them as "ready to download", but aren't they already downloaded b/c I own them? There is no compatability issue. When I tried a couple of these titles, they immediately went to my downloaded list and are shown as already/previously downloaded. I'm confused. Do I need to do anything with these 300 movies (which are continuing to grow in numbers, slowly)? Can you explain please? Thanks.
No worries at all. I appreciate the time you are taking in answering all our various questions. I have gone through my movies and have downloaded my updates and compatability issues. I think I'm caught up . I do have a list of movies that are available in sd format only. Think I'll wait for the upgrades to roll out instead of watching the sd version: "These titles are only compatible with Strato V in SD. Download them at no additional cost." Good strategy...? Thanks again Mike!Hi,
Sorry to be slow in replying.
There are two tabs on the Strato V Compatibility page: "All My Movies" and "Downloaded Movies". The All My Movies page shows all compatible movies in that "Ready to Download" row, even if the latest version on your system already. Some people have multiple systems, or might be adding a new system with a Strato V, so that's kind of the purpose of this.
If you switch over to the Downloaded Movies tab, that one will show you something that is I think closer to what you're looking for. There's a "Ready to Play" row that shows you the compatible movies already on your system, and a row that shows you movies on your system that require updates. That would be the place to focus.
Personally, I agree. I haven't downloaded any of the SD versions for compatibility. I might consider it if I really just wanted to re-watch a scene or something.I do have a list of movies that are available in sd format only. Is there any reason to keep the "DVD" or "Blu Ray Disc" version of movies that were subsequently upgraded. They don't take up any storage space on the Terra, but if they don't serve any purpose now that the movie has been upgraded I will delete these versions.Yep, you can do it from the app as well. I suggested the browser interface because it's the most direct way to see which movies have "multiple" formats.
