Slow Web Performance

Hi folks,

Question on the web performance of your Kscape system. Mine crawls and I am wondering why. I have 2x DV700, 2x Alto, 1x Strato and 1x Terra. In total have just over 1000 movies. I started with an Alto so it seems that is where my "web" service is coming from as the IP I use is the same as on the Alto. Can I make the Terra or Strato the "main" server? Would that speed things up? Everything is hardwired and uses DHCP.

Thanks.

Regardless of which is "main," you may see a performance difference by trying the others. You might want to try the web interface on all of them and see which you prefer.

Ideally, you should load your system's browser interface by using http://my-kaleidescape (http://my-kaleidescape.local on a Mac). This will result in the primary device responding to the request.

Failing that, you should definitely switch to using the IP address of the Terra for accessing the browser interface. You can determine the IP by going to the System Summary place on any of your devices (press "Info" on the KRemote and select the "System Summary" tab) and looking at the "Browser Interface URL" entry. In your case, that should be the IP of the Terra.

For the record, the browser interface is available via the IP of *any* player/server device in the system regardless of whether or not it is the primary device in the group. But you should use the "my-kaleidescape" URL or IP of the server whenever possible for best performance.

And note that the IP address shown in the Status area of the onscreen display should be the IP of the primary server (or player/server) in the cluster. i.e., if you view that Status page on each player, they should all show the same address, and that address should be the Terra in a system such as you've described.
