Question on multi-feature discs.

So one of the things I was amazed by when I started loading my system was a cheap 4-disc Alfred Hitchcock public domain set where the system actually broke every movie out individually. It's 4 DVD's with like 15+ movies.

After stocking up on some more cheap 2+ movie discs plus loading a customer's unit up that has A LOT of them; while most are being recognized, the disc is being presented as only one of the two movies, or a 'collection' with the only option being play disc 1,2,3,etc.

My question is, on these recognized but not detailed sets, will sending them in to Kaleidescape break them out into individual movies? I'm not sure how they get their info. Is it: We know what disc it is so here's some info, but no one has sent it in for indexing. Or is it: It's recognized so we've seen it here, but here's all the info we felt important?

On a related note, the customer's system has a lot of unrecognized discs that they do not have the case for anymore. Obviously I can't get the UPC, and I don't want to falsely tag them via Google searches. Does Kaleidescape require the case when sending the disc in, or will they index it accordingly and get the cover art by other means?

This particular customer is not getting the best experience as of right now as they have a 50 movie western set that's that's only one title with play disc 1-12 listed.

Thanks,

Kevin D.

There are multiple levels of movie recognition within the Kaleidescape movie guide. From least to most they are as follows:

1. Unrecognised: The disc has never been processed by Kaleidescape before and likely has never been reported before. No metadata exists in the Guide database.

2. Recognised but not bookmarked: There is metadata (e.g. cover art, synopsis, cast, etc) but no play items. The only option is to "Play Disc". This disc was likely reported to Kaleidescape via the "Enter UPC" mechanism but the disc has never been physically processed by Kaleidescape. Even if the disc has multiple movies on it, there will only be one selection in the library (although *both* movies might be listed in the metadata).

3. Partially bookmarked: In addition to metadata, the main feature play item on the disc has a bookmark ("Play Movie"). If the disc has multiple movies on it, they will be listed as separate selections in the library.

4. Fully bookmarked: In addition to metadata, all play items on the disc have a bookmark ("Play Movie", "Play Trailer", etc). If the disc has multiple movies on it, they will be listed as separate selections in the library.

In order for a disc to be in state 3 or 4, it must be processed by Kaleidescape (i.e. you'd have to send in the disc).

That post is a great example (among many) of why we're lucky to have Croptop here on this board.

Absolutely!:)

Great information! I use my Cinema One for mostly foreign films and concerts (my home-made server solution handles neither sub-titles or chapters very well) and it surprises me how many of my concert DVDs are only partially bookmarked, where the individual songs are not broken out. Of course I create my own bookmarks to solve this. Probably would be easier just to send the discs to K and have them do the work!
