Got a call from Quantum yesterday that they could install my new modem a week earlier than scheduled. 👍 luckily I was at home and I had 55 minutes to clear away the detritus in the area where the CenturyLink modem was located. Installation went smoothly and was up and running in about an hour.

I use a Netgear 970 Orbi WiFi 7 router with 2 satellites. Download at the router was about 2400 mbps and upload about 1000 mbps. WiFi to my iPhone 15 was 1300 mbps. One of my satellites is at the HT location and I use its Ethernet ports for streaming with Apple TV primarily. Checking download speed at the satellite, I got about 2300 mbps, courtesy of the dedicated backhaul connection. 👍😀

I’ve ordered a Stratos V and 8 TB server. I’m hoping I can successfully locate the server at the router location, otherwise both will be at the HT cabinet. Will report back after I’ve got everything. In the meantime, I’m scanning the K store for what I want to get initially. Really looking forward to it.

PS installer told me they’d be offering higher speeds in the next few months, up to 10 Gbps. I’m old enough I can remember how excited I was to go from 300 bps to 1200 bps…

Glad to hear this for you..Old enough, lol.

I'm one of those rural residents that was promised broadband access by way of government programs and grant initiatives. AT&T pulled 1mbps DSL in 2015 and since then, there has been no wired service. Spectrum is the closest provided and they offer gigabit. I've heard it typically hits a ~800mbps down and 35mbps up.

I'm currently in discussions withSpectrum to o build out to me, but this has been through years of communication, Writing letters to multiple VPs and Directors at that company, constant follow up. I'll likely still have to pay for construction although the cost has come down from the quoted $37,500 since 2015.

Enjoy!

Good luck! I hope it works out.

I mean, I can remember going from 14.4kbps to 28.8kbps to 56kbps ….. and stunned when 640kbps DSL finally arrived …..
Same...from having nothing at all. OMG. I can download a song...I can download a song in 20 minutes...I can download a whole song in 3 minutes. What a long way we've come.
