Preload a Strato/Terra for People w/ Bad Internet?

I have a single Strato and new downloads go there when in 4K, but still most on Premiere (3x 1Us, 2x disc vaults). It would be cheaper to move to Strato/Terra everywhere even if I had to rebuy all of the movies given the cost of a 30TB 1U+ (even with the promotion).

However, our bad internet is a killer (30 down, 2 up for $140/month!). While Starlink may eventually save me and make it a much easier transition, I was wondering if there could be an option created to download all movies I own (after I re-buy them all...) to a system prior to shipping it to me? I know there used to be an option to receive bundles of discs to import yourself but given the added security in Encore, maybe this is possible?

Well you could always ask your dealer to do that for you before it is delivered to your house. Being a Kaleidescape dealer myself that is the kind of service I provide for my clients. Alternatively if you are in the US and you don’t currently have a dealer you are welcome to PM me.

Cheers,
Alan

This is how the Marine Movie Service works isn’t it?

You order the server and purchase the movies which are then factory preloaded before shipping. I’d imagine these are loaded directly by K from local storage rather than having to be downloaded (which is what a dealer would need to do), which for large collections could take a while.

Interesting question whether this sort of service might be available outside the Marine Movie Service or if you have to buy a yacht first to qualify! ;)

You can have K download your content to a new server (or Strato) at a rate of $250 for up to 100 movies. You would need to have the titles in your Store account, and whichever component you select must have the capability to store the selected content. In other words, they will not "shop" titles for you, or make decisions about downloading content if you lack the correct storage. They will only download what you have in your account (or one of the pre-selected "collections" they offer), they will not shop individual titles for you. As an example, I had a client open a Store account, purchase only UHD/HDR titles that were held in his Store account until he purchased a Terra. K then downloaded his Store content to the new Terra and shipped it to him.

Glad to hear there is an option - that could work great! Any suggestions on a faster way to analyze 841 movies to compare against what is available in the store besides exporting a spreadsheet and checking manually?

It depends on whether or not the movies have been imported into your Premiere system. If so, when you log into your account at the Kaleidescape store you should be able to see what titles you own by going to a section (eg. all movies or all TV or new arrivals, etc.) and then filter by "owned". The titles that are available in the Store that you own will be labelled as either "You own on blu-ray quality or DVD quality" for downloads or "You own on blu-ray" or "You own on DVD" for physical media. You can also just browse the store and it will tell you if you own on another format but that is very tedious.

There are other ways, such as checking under the "Manage" section for digital offers or disc to digital which will tell you which titles you own on DVD or blu-ray or blu-ray quality that are eligible for either special pricing or upgrades under the digital offers or just repurchase under disc to digital.

I am not sure if this is exactly what you were asking, but I hope some of these options might be of help.

Yeah, I can do that to see a list of what I own, but I'll think have to export a spreadsheet from Premiere and manually work through each one to figure out what needs to be re-bought and what I would lose.

Howdy folks. There are tools accessible to your dealer that will allow them to generate a fully report of the content on your system, including the titles available for disc-to-digital, the titles that are available digitally (but without the DtD discount), and the titles that are not currently available in the movie store.

If any dealers are unaware of these tools, you’re welcome to PM me and I’ll let you know where to find them, or you can check with your sales rep.

Sounds good, but should really be available to end users. Is there any reason they are not?

The info is buried in a section of our dealer Extranet, currently on the Sales Programs page. It would need to be re-coded for owners to have access, and not sure the work involved would be a priority given all that K engineers do everyday. In the meantime the dealer can access the info and share with owner. (Not saying it can't be done someday, unless there is a different reason for it not being available to owners.)

The main reason it's not currently available to all customers is that it was really not intended as a high-volume production tool. There's a small amount of manual effort involved to fire off the tool and then send the report. It's also not formatted as a highly-polished document -- it's a spreadsheet.

With that said, we're talking about whether we can make it available to interested users. But in the meantime, just ask your dealer to do it. All they need to do is enter your movie store email address and the report will be sent to you directly.

See attached (posted with Mike's permission) for a sample of the output as a PDF since I can't post Excel files. Zoom in to see details. Very helpful and a huge time saver!
