Overriding Movie Ratings Doesn't Work as Expected

Hi. Casey B suggested I post my question here. Glad to find out that this forum exists.

My 2 year old is a proficient user of our Kaleidescape.

We have the system set to a default parental control level of
Children's Content, which in turn is set to G and Below. There are a
small number of PG films that we think are appropriate viewing for our
child, e.g., The Incredibles and Lilo & Stitch. Both of these
films are rated PG by the movie guide. The system allows me to
manually change the rating of both films to G using the Edit Movie
Details dialog. The movies then show up in the Children's Content but
when you try to play them you get a Kaleidescape dialog saying that
the rating has been exceeded.

Does anyone have any experience using parental control? Is this a bug, or is the override not fully implemented?

Thanks.

Hi Zanshin,

welcome to the forum!

That does sound like a bug if I understand it right. I often RAISE the rating of a movie, so that it DOESN'T show up at my kids permitted levels, but I've never tried lowering one.

There's a rather ugly workaround, depending on how many movies you have. You could permit your kids to see PG movies, and raise all the ones you don't want them to access to PG-13.

You could submit it as a bug, the team at Kaleidescape is usually very responsive. (It's possible they'll see this here and respond... )

Thanks for the quick reply, and the welcome. The workaround would be too onerous, sadly.

I have found the company to be supremely customer-oriented, so we'll see what happens.
