Old Ewuipment/New Owner

First. Yes, I checked with K before i bought these and my serial numbers are clean. Nothing worked when I got it but I managed to get the 5U, a 2500 player, and the reader working (I'm handy like that).

KServer-2500 (3x750Gb + 3x500gb)
KPlayer-2500
KReader-2000

So here are my questions:

What are the largest hard drives I can put in this thing?
Where do I get them?
Has anyone managed to swap drives without having to hassle with and (more importantly) pay KSacpe? I understand that usually you have to have drives reinitialized first but its expensive.
How do I determine how much storage a movie is going to need and how many movies I can fit in the space I have? I understand not all movies are the same size. Is there a formula for this?

Also, I understand the need for the network to connect these components. Can I use just a router or is a switch necessary and why?

I am pretty sure the 5U server only went up to 750gb drives. These are the old style PATA drives and are not available from K any longer. Drives will only be re-initialized by K if they are still in warranty and obviously none of the drives from the 5U are. On the main menu of the web interface of the server there is a message that indicates how much space for new movies remains (ie Available storage: X Blu-ray discs, YY DVDs or ZZZ CDs). If you have just three components, you can just hook them to a router (almost all work internally as a switch for their LAN ports).

Thanks for the info. I may have my work cut out for me then but I'm sure there's a way to do something about additional and/or larger drives and the ability to add drives from another system to mine. After all, it's just a computer.

You need a switch. You can probably use your router as most have a built-in switch. (Are you confused yet?)

Switch = connecting devices within the same network
Router = connecting devices in different networks (sitting between you own network and the internet)
