• Thanks for visiting the Kaleidescape Owners' Forum

This forum is for the community of Kaleidescape owners, and others interested in learning about the system, equipment, services, and the company itself.

It is run by a group of enthusiastic Kaleidescape owners and dealers purely as a service to this community.

This board is not affiliated in any way with Kaleidescape, Inc.

  • You are currently in "Guest" mode and not logged in with a registered account.

The forum is free to use and most of the forum can be used by guests who are not registered....

... but we strongly encourage you to register for a full account. There is no cost to register for a full account.

Benefits of registering for a full account:

    • Participate in the discussions! You must have a registered account to make posts on the forums. You will be able to start your own thread on a topic or question, or you can reply to other threads/discussions.
    • Use the "Conversation" feature (known as "private messaging" on other forums) to communicate directly with any of the other users here.
    • Access the Files area. The "resources" area of the forum contains many "Favorite Scene" and Script files that can dramatically increase the enjoyment of your Kaleidescape system. Go directly to great scenes in your favorite movies, created by other owners, and add automation to playback of your system with Scripts.
    • You won't see this annoying notice at the top of every screen!😊

It's easy and free to register for the forum. Just click the "Register" button in the upper right corner of this page, and follow the instructions there.

  • 🔷Why can't I make a new post here in "The Marketplace"? 🤔

All registered users can reply to other members' posts here in the Marketplace, to respond as potential buyer or ask questions of the seller.
However, only members who have paid to become "Premium" members or "Patrons" can make a new "for sale" post here in Marketplace.

Premium memberships can be purchased for as little as $10... a very reasonable fee in order to sell equipment here, far lower than the seller's fee would be on eBay or Audiogon or other sites. Our site doesn't sell ads or sell user's information. This small fee is the only source of funds for the site to offset the costs it takes to run the forum.

For more information on purchasing a Premium or Patron membership, please see the Account Upgrades section of your user profile.

I have a client with a large cache of 3U servers purchased a few years ago, put into storage and never deployed. Boxes opened recently to confirm serial numbers. Hold on to your hats - there are NINE of these available. All are brand new. All have 14 X 6TB drives. All are grandfathered. No joke.

The servers are in storage in CA, I am in NYC. I will facilitate communication with the family office and shipping of the servers. The factory is aware of the servers and I will arrange for an email between serious parties and a Kaleidescape executive for verification.

Offered at $11,500 each plus insured shipping to you location. These are ideal for backups to your large yacht system or as an upgrade to your stack of aging 1500 series servers with precarious power supplies. Open to discussion for a bulk purchase of 3 or more units. The units will not carry warranty nor are they eligible for extensions at this time.

Serious inquiries only please. I am doing my client a favor and would like to not waste my time, the factory's time, or his staff's time with games. Thanks.

I assume you've researched the values prior to listing these, and are pricing these high to determine the current market given that Premiere servers (like the 3U) will no longer be serviced by K, but on the off chance you did not, I'll share the last Five 3U sales that went through my company:

All 3U servers, no mechanical problems:
60TB, 5 years old, no warranty, sold for $3,300 (took about 6 weeks)
24TB, 8 years old, no warranty, sold for $2,900
48TB, 4.5 years old, 6 mos warranty remained (it had been extended), sold for $2,700
48TB, 6 years old, no warranty, sold for $2,500
72TB, 3.5 years old, 6 mos. warranty remained, could extend for 1 additional year, sold for $3,600. (sold in 3 weeks)

I have heard of others selling in this range, and a couple much higher (in the $5,000 - $6,000 range IIRC), but those had good warranties remaining.

Under Kaleidescape's current trade-up Promo from the 3U to the Terra Servers: the credit provided by returning a 3U (any size drives) is:
$3,124 if trading for the Terra 24TB.
$4,124 if trading for the Terra 40TB.

I'm only posting this to indicate that the members on this forum are fairly knowledgeable when it comes to the current market, so you may get pricing offers in those ranges, don't want you to think they are playing "games," or not serious offers.

That said, those 3U's may be more attractive to some buyers because they've never been used, so perhaps you'll beat the current market. (You may also do better on eBay given the foreign buyers, and those that might not keep up with the current market.)

Should you choose to follow cinelifes example and come down in price, I'd be interested in one, frankly more if i could afford it.

Do you still have these ?

I don’t think the OP is visiting the site anymore. I reached out a couple of months ago and was told that the owners lost motivation on the sales therefore not in the market anymore.

@Substance, thanks for the updated status, I'll wait a couple of days and if no reply to a message from me, I'll close this thread and lock it to avoid confusion and wasted time.

Jim

The owner didn't realize what was involved in selling or that the value would vary as the factory changed it's plans ... we can kill this thread.

End of discussion. Thread closed.
