No Forum access from within China

Just to let all know, if you intend traveling to mainland China, the "Great Firewall of China" blocks internet access to the Kaleidescape Owner's Forum. You won't be able to access the forum from within China.
 
Lol, I think it more likely has to do with them blocking the hosting service that hosts this forum along with a lot of other forums and the Kscape owners forum just got swept up in the net.

Oh, so it's not because the Mods of the forum are sympathetic to Falun Gong?
 
Well Im thinking that the DVDCCA is part of the IP owners who complain about illegal copying and if the DVDCCA's position is that K Scape is in violation of their agreements then in essence its a prohibited copying.......
 
It is the DVD CCA's stance that it is prohibited. That doesn't MAKE it prohibited any more than Turner Broadcasting's stance that DVRing a TV show is theft makes it illegal.

There are fair use rights and those who oppose them. Laws change and are re-interpreted over time but it is the current law that determines what is and isn't illegal and the law interprets the contracts that determine what is and what isn't prohibited. Kaleidescape and the DVD CCA have been fighting over this for 8 years and will likely continue for several more.

Finally, if the Falun Gong thing was true, I would be worried about the mods allegiences to the PKK because I don't want to lose my forum access when I am in Istanbul.
 
Having been in China and more recently Dubai it is amazing how most of us take unlimited access to internet content for granted when you see what gets censored / blocked there. Get a VPN connection and access is restored. If only the self perpetuating US legal process was so easy to circumvent ;)
