Kaleidescape Announces Mini Terra Prime Movie Server
Miniature, Silent Solid-State Server Brings Unrivaled Performance to Movie Lovers

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, November 18, 2025 – Kaleidescape, maker of the ultimate movie platform, today announced the availability of the new Mini Terra Prime movie server, the latest addition to the Terra Prime server line.
“Mini Terra Prime is Kaleidescape’s most compact movie server, but it delivers a mighty punch: fast downloads, high performance playback, and ample storage,” said Tayloe Stansbury, chairman and CEO, Kaleidescape. “It is the perfect complement for Kaleidescape M and E reference-quality movie players.”
Mini Terra Prime features 8TB internal solid-state storage, enough to store approximately 125 high-bitrate Kaleidescape 4K movies. Movies download in as little as 4 minutes over a 2.5 gigabit Ethernet connection. Mini Terra Prime supports up to 25 simultaneous playbacks, with no loss in quality, scaling to the needs of the consumer.
Sized identically to Kaleidescape Strato M and E movie players, Mini Terra Prime features architectural-grade steel with a mosaic vent pattern for natural convection cooling. The absence of an internal fan results in silent operation, perfect for placement in any room. Mini Terra Prime can also be rack mounted next to Strato M or E for a sleek look.
Kaleidescape movie files are typically ten times larger than streamer movies, retaining lossless audio and near lossless video fidelity from studio masters. Kaleidescape movies are downloaded and played back from local storage, to ensure perfect playback every time.
Adding Terra Prime to a Strato V, E, or M standalone system unlocks the full Kaleidescape user experience, including the list view and iconic cover shuffle view, which look and work better with larger movie libraries. Up to four Terra movie servers can be grouped in a Kaleidescape system with any number of Strato movie players.

There is also a K "set" available (KSET-2001) that pairs a Strato-E with this new Mini Terra for $8,990 retail.

Note: I just edited my original post referring to this set as a Promo to because as was pointed out below that price is the combined retail price for those products. My bad for not doing the math.

How does this new model mini terra prime 8tb ssd compare to the "old" model Compact Terra Prime 8tb ssd? I assume performance is exactly the same but the new model with redesign is much smaller and compact?

Definitely a step in the right direction, but cost per movie to store is still $48 per movie.

From my perspective the max it is ever worth to me is the replacement cost per movie if Kaleidescape went under and I had to repurchase.

I love having a Kaleidescape in my theater for its superior performance—it definitely helps the system achieve its full potential. I even bought a second one for my second home, though I still have trouble justifying the cost of the hard drive.

I understand that my valuation is different from others though.

There is also a K Promo available (KSET-2001) that pairs a Strato-E with this new Mini Terra for $8,990 retail. If you recently purchased the "E" through me and would have purchased this Promo, contact me and I'll adjust the cost for adding the Mini Terra.

Doesn’t the Strato E retail for $2995 so together with the MSRP of the Mini Server of $5995 this adds up to exactly $8990 or am I forgetting something?

Good point. A promo should include a substantial discount, $1,000 or even $2,000 off. The CEDIA Strato E + Terra Prime 12TB bundle promo, for example, came with $1,000 off.

For those of us that complained about K Terra prices, such as me (!) I thank them for this big step in the right direction.

I just bought a Strato E with Terra Prime 12TB HDD combo deal. Still waiting for my Terra to arrive tomorrow, but now I’m hoping I made the right decision. I realize the new mini is only 8TB, but I still worry about long-term reliability of HDD vs SDD after the warranty period.

Yes, and my fault for not doing the math. I checked again and it isn't listed as a "Promo," so my use of that word was incorrect. It is listed as a "set," on the price list, and I quickly assumed it was a Promo because they were listed together. I asked for clarification.

Pretty nice! I was expecting this. :) No way to fit an HDD into that smaller chassis, so this makes a lot of sense. With room for 2 drives, it should scale nicely in the future too.

I have a video with my thoughts on it that will publish tomorrow morning.

Great to see this.

But, hmmm, if they keep shrinking stuff and jamming more into these new chassis, does it seem like there might soon be a single mini-chassis Strato E + miniTerraPrime SSD combo device? Kinda like a mini version of the venerable Strato S... the return of the single-box player+server.
🤔

My concern with this and will always be more chances for failure of a single unit. As long as K's stance is basically "you're screwed" outside of warranty. No repairs. I'm not sure I love that idea. I sure do like the convenience though. Makes total sense.

Hopefully one with a replaceable Terra drive should it go out. (or wishfully thinking, if you wanted to upgrade the size later)

Definitely a step in the right direction but still too rich for my blood considering I have had no regrets just using the 1tb in the Strato V. The cost/tb for K storage is still something I cannot justify...especially since I work with PCs and storage all day and know what storage actually costs.
