Xenforo has a great feature called "Watching" a thread. When you click "Watch" when reading a thread, you will get notified every time there's a new comment, reply, or reaction. By default, you automatically have "watching" turned on for any thread you start, and you can optionally choose to watch any thread at any time.
This is useful when there's a particular topic you're interested in and want to track all new comments there.

You can choose how you want to be notified of new activity in a watched thread: just on the forum itself, in your alerts tab, or via email:

and there's a new button "Watched" that always appears in the upper left when you're in the "Forums" tab... clicking that takes you to a summary of what's happening on all of your watched threads.
