New 2.0 Aspect Ratio Tag

I believe there is a new aspect ratio of 2.0 that is being used for newer movies and shows. I think Jurassic World and House of Cards are both presented in this new 2.0 aspect ratio. These are currently flagged as 1.85.

Can a new 2.0 Aspect Ratio be created and added to controller drivers?

You are correct that we do not currently use an aspect ratio of 2.0. However, the SCREEN_MASK control protocol commands include both trim values and absolute values to correct for titles that don't exactly match the aspect ratio.

When a title is bookmarked, the nearest aspect ratio is chosen and then trim values are added to indicate any offset to the edge of the image area.

The masking system can then use either the trim values or the absolute positioning values to correct the position of the screen mask.

Admittedly, these trim values or absolute values are only useful if your masking system supports either fine-tuning adjustments or absolute positioning.

Thanks for checking in John!

John, Thank you for the quick response!

Looking at Control4 driver, I believe the variable is Cinemascape_Mask.

John, Thank you for the quick response!

Looking at Control4 driver, I believe the variable is Cinemascape_Mask.

CINEMASCAPE_MASK is only active and only applies if you are using one of the Cinemascape modes. Unlike SCREEN_MASK or SCREEN_MASK2, CINEMASCAPE_MASK only includes a frame ratio. The frame ratio is expressed as a zero-padded, three-digit number between 000 and 999, in hundredths of the ratio of frame width to height. Currently, only absolute values are supported: 133, 166, 178, 237, and 240.

We need a new Control4 driver which supports the Control4 movie database. I wrote one and tested that it works but I can't actually use it as I don't have access to the iPad API. I did enquire about it, but was told this is something you don't release to any one. Both Roomie (now Simple Control) and Remotescape support this.

There are many people asking for this functionality, dealers and customers.

I do agree. It would be amazing if we could have a new driver that could integrate better with Control4!
