Guess we will be purchasing Mulan to watch this week streaming on Disney+. Will also purchase when it becomes available at the K store. We would have gone to the theaters for this movie, and really will actually be less expensive and a better experience than our local cinema. I know the wine will be really good. ;) Disney did a good job with Hamilton so hopefully this will be the same. Just not as good as it will be when available from K. SJ
 
Ok we watched it. Video not bad, but the audio was really lacking even though it was ATMOS but low res. Had to pump up the volume on my Trinnov Alt32 higher than I’ve ever done. Streaming from an Apple 4KTV. Can’t wait for the K release!

Disney are well known for mastering at a much lower volume for their discs and clipping out lower frequencies whilst they’re at it. Seems to be the same on D+.

Never had that problem with the Disney titles at K. K must auto correct the volume or do their own sampling from the mezzanine file.
 
I had the same sense as SJ. Video was nice and crisp. Audio was low and a little boring actually. We enjoyed the movie and will watch it again
 
C'mon Disney, just release for purchase. You'll still get your money! Add an extra 25% or so to turn your rental to a purchase (valid for the first 30 days its released for purchase), so some such thing!
 
I thought that maybe they knew it was going to be watched at home by a majority of people using TV and soundbar speakers and just "dumbed down" the mix for that lowest common denominator. I also wonder if the issue couldn't be AppleTV; I watched Taylor Swift's Reputation (Netflix) on ATV and it sounded AWFUL; super compressed, no dynamics, had volume at like +5 to get any decent levels; watched the same show on my XBox One and it was night-and-day different... Was watching my Trinnov Alt32 meters (in our second viewing with some close friends) and thought the film was not even using Atmos tops. Then all of a sudden in a scene they would fly up (and then go away). So more for specific effects vs. immersion. SJ

We have watched the Disney+ version of this film several times with friends. Tonight we watched the K version with a couple who had not seen the movie. The K version is just spectacular. Just a pristine 4K movie. One of the best. Disney Atmos could still use some work, but still good stuff.... SJ
