M700 Drive

I had a new drive in an M700 last January and it now looks like it’s failing again with the M700 wanting to eject discs. I know that the drive is a Sony Optiarc 5640h but these are no longer available. Has anyone tried any “compatible” drives?

many thanks

Hey Adam,

What are the symptoms?

If the internal rollers are dirty and struggle to pull discs in and out of the optical drive, it can give the false impression that the drive is failing. If you haven't already done so, you may want to open the vault and clean the rollers as a precaution. And while you have the vault open, power it on and pop a few discs in to watch and see if everything is doing its job.

Hi Andy

yes done that and rollers are clean.

drive is just not recognising discs that have been in there for a while. Last time this happened it needed a new drive.

Adam hi,

Try cleaning the discs with a microfiber cleaning cloth and screen cleaner spray. Worked for me all 10-12 discs that were suddenly ejected were recognized again.

You could also try cleaning the drive by inserting a lens-cleaner disc 3 or 4 times.
