Can you comment on the modify behaviors bullet? What's different?

I was surprised initially how alpha covers work. I found it somewhat confusing to navigate up and down relative to left and right as the cover flow went off screen in all 4 directions, not just two of them. It's easy to miss content in alpha cover flow because of this.

There were actually a number changes related to alphabetically sorted covers.

The first is that Cinema One (2nd generation) players now have access to the alphabetic sorting option via the onscreen settings.

The second is a general change to how Covers behaves when in the alpha mode.

Previously, Premiere systems with this option selected behaved as follows:
  • Covers were sorted alphabetically
  • If the user pressed the Shuffle button on their remote control or sent the SHUFFLE_COVER_ART control protocol command, the covers would shuffle, and the Covers place then entered a temporary auto-shuffle mode where they continued to shuffle each time the user navigated between covers.
  • If the user shuffled the covers, and they left the Covers place and returned, the auto-shuffle behavior would end, but the covers did not re-alphabetize. The only way to re-alphabetize the covers was to do something that forced a refresh of the covers (e.g. change parental control level) or to send ALPHABETIZE_COVER_ART.

Now, all systems support alphabetic covers, and they all behave this way:
  • Covers will be sorted alphabetically
  • If the user presses the Shuffle button or sends the protocol command, the covers will shuffle. However, as you then navigate the Covers place, the covers will not auto-shuffle. You can press Shuffle again whenever you want to shuffle.
  • If the user has shuffled the covers and they leave the Covers place and return, the covers will be alphabetized when they return. This does not apply to leaving Covers by playing content and returning – in that case, the covers will still be shuffled

One change applies if the user has covers set to shuffle:
  • If the user sends ALPHABETIZE_COVER_ART, then they leave Covers and return, the covers will be immediately returned to the shuffled state. (Previously, they would remain alphabetized until the user navigated once, and then they would shuffle.)
Additionally, there is one change to the covers that applies whether they are set to be alphabetized or auto-shuffled:
  • If the user has used the remote or the control protocol to change the shuffle/sort state of Covers (they hit shuffle while set to alphabetize, or they sent ALPHABETIZE while set to shuffle), then invoking the Main Menu and simply pressing OK on Covers again will immediately arrange the covers according to the setting chosen in the Settings place. This gives you a quick two-button way (Menu, OK) to restore your default shuffle mode.

Lastly, note that the shuffle setting applies system-wide, and changing the shuffle setting is now applied immediately on all players, and the covers will immediately reorder to match the new setting.

I can verify that my co-star system runs much faster now. I have 7 1U’s running that support 3 different zones with strato/premiere systems. Much better response times. Fyi

Hey Mike. Premieres all update to kOS 8.5.1-20752 this week. Can you tell us what the updates are?

kOS 8.5.1 contains a fix for a bug that affected Premiere systems with large libraries and a large number of legacy, pre-M-Class players. These systems experienced a dramatic slowdown on the OSD and the browser interface. There are no other changes in kOS 8.5.1

Should this download automatically? Mine are all saying 8.4.5

Yes, it will download automatically, but our systems update in batches. In the case of 8.5.1, I believe it will go to systems that had already updated to 8.5.0 when we discovered the bug that John described, and then it will continue to the rest of the installed base.
