Curious about the new labels at Kaleidescape.com touting their "Solar Powered Factory", first pointed out to me by @markrubin.

Wondering if @MikeKobb or @tayloe can tell us more about what this means and if it's part of a specific sustainability program or something? Is the "factory" actually a company-owned facility rather than a contract manufacturer?

Better yet, maybe @AmandaDavis could take us on a full tour of the Kaleidescape factory... I'm sure many of us here would love to see how the components come together and what the factory actually looks like.

I took a tour of their facility but it was about 20 years ago. I am sure a lot has changed. My guess is that they put in solar panels on the roof to offset some or all of their electric power usage. Net metering laws in California are pretty favorable for solar installations, although they are on NEMA 3.0 for those laws and they have been getting worse for the solar panel owner compared to prior iterations of the law. I was fortunate enough to get my solar installs put it under NEMA 1.0.

They are still in Mt. View but my guess is that is just their corporate office and may not be where they actually build their servers and players. I thought their stuff was built in Texas so that is probably where their solar panels are.
 
Thanks Tayloe. I'm sure members here would still be interested in seeing how it's done, but understand that it may not be doable at a CM facility. appreciate the clarification on that solar designation.
