K Control Protocol Audio Request

SJHT

Well-known member
The Kaleidescape System control protocol is really good. Example, my control system knows when a 4K HDR movie is playing and can reconfigure my system accordingly (e.g. switch my projector to a different setting) and then switch back for menus (or SDR movies, etc.). This is because the control protocol triggers events that can be read by control systems. This is great for lighting, screen masking, video, etc. One event that seems to be missing is audio. It would be great if they could implement a new event to capture changes in audio for movies. If this was done, this could trigger audio processors to change depending on content (e.g. Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, etc.). The latest (Oct 2018) control manual actually has all of this under "Advanced Integration" and even mentions audio, but there doesn't seem to be any specific audio events. Would be great if this were added at some point. Thanks! SJ

Also, please add a new command like GET_AUDIO in the same was as:

GET_VIDEO_COLOR
Affects Any movie zone
Command GET_VIDEO_COLOR:
Response/Event status:VIDEO_COLOR:EOTF:color_space: color_depth:color_sampling:
This message provides color information about the current video output. Controllers can use this information to configure external scalers, video processors, and display devices.
The event message is generated whenever the video mode of any video output changes.

This would allow easy addition of the new logic to capture audio! The system generated events are the most critical vs. executing the command. So, if you change audio on a movie, the system would automatically generate an event status which would then trigger a command in a control system to change audio in a processor to match content audio being selected.
