JVC NZ9 -- which format: 4K HDR or 4K UHD?

I'm a bit confused, which format, 4K HDR vs 4K UHD, should I download to watch with my JVC NZ9 projector (on 150'' 2.4:1, 1.3gain screen, projector about 17 feet away)? I don't have a lugamen or madvr or anything like that, but likely will add in the future.

Should I do 4K UHD for the NZ9 projector and 4K HDR for my HDTVs? Or 4K HDR for everything when possible?

You'll want the 4K HDR version when it's available. That's an excellent projector that has no problem displaying HDR content. If your TV was a recent purchase from one of the main five companies, it should handle HDR without any problem. You don't need a video processor to display HDR content, but you'll be better able to calibrate, (especially for tone mapping) if you have one in your chain at some point going forward. I'm a Lumagen fan and dealer, and their products are excellent IMO, but in fairness to MadVR, they have many fans as well.

One other comment, when you're ready to consider a VP in your setup, I'd reach out to Kris Deering for guidance, IMO he's the most knowledgeable guy in AV on the subject, and he's also a Lumagen dealer. (It should tell you something when I recommend another dealer on a product we sell.) You can find Kris's posts in this Forum (or on AVS), but if you want his contact info reach out and I'll get that to you.
