    • Access the Files area. The "resources" area of the forum contains many "Favorite Scene" and Script files that can dramatically increase the enjoyment of your Kaleidescape system. Go directly to great scenes in your favorite movies, created by other owners, and add automation to playback of your system with Scripts.
    • You won't see this annoying notice at the top of every screen!😊

It's easy and free to register for the forum. Just click the "Register" button in the upper right corner of this page, and follow the instructions there.

  • 🔷Why can't I make a new post here in "The Marketplace"? 🤔

All registered users can reply to other members' posts here in the Marketplace, to respond as potential buyer or ask questions of the seller.
However, only members who have paid to become "Premium" members or "Patrons" can make a new "for sale" post here in Marketplace.

Premium memberships can be purchased for as little as $10... a very reasonable fee in order to sell equipment here, far lower than the seller's fee would be on eBay or Audiogon or other sites. Our site doesn't sell ads or sell user's information. This small fee is the only source of funds for the site to offset the costs it takes to run the forum.

For more information on purchasing a Premium or Patron membership, please see the Account Upgrades section of your user profile.

Plan A was to wait for the new 3TB's to come out...seems that's not happening anytime soon so need to put Plan B into effect. Meaning I need an invalidated 750GB to keep me going until Plan A can happen. Via PM, please.

DIREGARD: I've decided to trade-in my 750's on a new 2TB disc file system...

Does K have a trade up program for K-disks? I know they did at one point for servers as well as players.

yes they do (upgrade the discs and exchange server for an upgraded one), your dealer has all the details...

Do you know what the price for the 1U server upgrade is in the US? I live abroad, but was wondering what the upgrade program trading an older 1U with 4 1TB drives in for a fully loaded 1U with 2TB drives is?

Yes I do, but for the pricing you need to refer to the dealer who is registered to the system being upgraded. That's the only way you can get a quotation I'm afraid....but I can tell you the price is very attractive and is a no-brainer if you've got an old server and 750GB/1TB disc file system.

I must be misssing something here. You can purchase a new 1u server fully populated with 2tb disks, and then get a trade in credit for your existing 1u server fully populated with 750gb drives. So you're trading your old 1u server in for a new 1u server? Why not just have a trade-in allowance for just the k-disks themselves... and wouldn't it be more cost effective for the end user to just purchase new 2tb k-disks by themselves, and just dump the older 750's in the open marketplace?

My understanding is that one gets a refurbished server during this trade in/upgrade, which then gives you a new 2 year guarantee. I was also made to understand that the upgrade is supposed to be a no brainier, but i have been quoted just a tad above $6000 for upgrading, while, according to my local dealer, the dealers don't even make a margin when they facilitate such a trade in transaction. Was just curious roughly how much more cost effective it is in the US.

Think of it this way. Buy four new 2TB's at whatever that price is in your particular market, and if you choose to do so, you can swap your old 1U server and the old 750/1TB discs for the upgraded server at no extra charge.

You end up with a brand new system with 2 year warranty, al-be-it the server is a remanufactured one (but I bet you can't tell it apart from a brand new one).

Your initial upfront cost is of course more than the change-over price, because Kaleidescape send you the new stuff first. When you receive it you have 2 weeks to replicate your content to the new file system, return the old stuff to Kaleidescape, then get your exchange credit. So the difference between your initial upfront cost and the exchange credit is your changeover price...
