Will K be able to support multiple aspect ratio versions like it currently does with multiple soundtrack versions? Specifically IMAX?

Would be nice to not only pick if we want 5.1, Atmos, DTS:X, or IMAX Enhanced, but also choose scope or IMAX.

Assuming of course if the studio has the any of the above options as part of their release. Similar to the version selection functionality showing in Disney+ right now.
 
Likely would have to be a separate movie file If they had this. All likely studio specific. My audio processor is getting this soon. Will do some testing with Disney+, but would be great if K had a few movies for my testing. SJ

I can tell you that Disney+ does NOT currently support DTS:IMAX audio. (They all play with the "regular" Dolby Atmos stream.) One of the best places to get full IMAX Enhanced content (currently) is the Sony BRAVIA Core service. Unfortunately, this is only available to select 2021 Sony TVs, meaning you can't watch on a projector, but I can confirm that movies streamed from that service due indeed trigger DTS:IMAX processing on my Marantz AV-8805. I agree with you that if IMAX Enhanced comes to Kaleidescape, it would likely be a separate file download.
 
You’re right. Disney+ currently does not offer Imax audio. On their blog they said that will come in 2022
 
I recently saw this video where trinnov's John Herron talks about Disney+ going to soon release support for IMAX enhanced audio so Trinnov prioritized releasing support for it. Since many home theatres are going to have trinnov + kscape combo it would be remiss if kscape did not offer the support for IMAX video as well. Anyone from Kscape can help us understand if and why/when there will be support for it in the future?
 
K needs to consider what they contractually can get from the studios and also their customer base usage In determining the priority. Just the same as they consider things like Dolby Vision. Example, many projector based theaters with wide screens would likely not use an IMAX Enhanced movie (or Dolby Vision). I personally don’t see this as a high priority at this point. Just my opinion… SJ
 
Totally makes sense from a priority. Since Dolby vision probably involves hardware updates to existing systems (no projector supports vision as well currently), I would assume that might be a longer consideration. I liked how Disney+ let us choose IMAX version or the widescreen aspect ratio based on each person's setup (similar to how K lets us download UHD, HDR versions) rather than sticking to a specific aspect ratio. I personally have a 16:9 screen and love enjoying 16:9 contents in K in all its glory.
 
I’m in the 16:9 camp as well. Letterbox bars don’t bother me, I’m fine watching scope movies on my screen. Also don’t want to deal with all the headaches that come with scope screens. But completely understand the preference by the purists.

Would love to hear from K if this is on the roadmap? Would this be a software obstacle or license obstacle?
 
Is it just me or does this IMAX enhanced standard seem dead before it even started? What in the world are they working on over at DTS?
 
DTS:X and IMAX Enhanced have had so many false starts, I just don't know how much investment companies are going to be comfortable making in that ecosystem.

A few years ago, EVERY SONY BLU-RAY was going to be IMAX Enhanced. That turned into a few dozen or so before they backed off. My Anthem AVM-60 got an IMAX Enhanced firmware update but only a handful of discs would activate it, and there was no discernible difference.

If you listen to the Trinnov Music Machine trailer on K, the DTS:X track is far superior to the Atmos track. I'm a DTS fan, but unfortunately they've been kneecapped by Atmos and I don't see them regaining any ground at all. They're pushing new ideas, but there isn't a large enough demand for them to make a dent in anyone's bottom line.

Dolby is required on all discs. DTS is an add-on. DTS has never gotten a foothold in streaming formats. Atmos was first out of the gate for immersive codecs. DTS never recovered. It's too bad.
 
When it comes to 5.1 and 7.1 soundtracks, DTS-HD is king. Beyond that, of course Atmos is the only game. And Auro-3d is a small player, though if you have enough speakers and a Trinnov or Storm Audio with both Atmos and Auro-3d then for those few of us really into music there are some Pure Audio blu ray discs and a lot of 2L blu ray discs with Atmos and/or Auro-3d as well as DTS-HD 5.1 and 7.1.
 
Just curious to know current perspective on IMAX Enhanced. Honestly, I don't know much about it. Thanks for any current info.
