How do you like your K Scripts?

I am wondering what format do the K owners use in setting up their K Scripts.

I do not use the Cover Art feature before each demo plays. Right now after each demo stops the screen goes white, the lights come on, then a few seconds later, the next one starts and the lights go off. My C4 Core 3 processor is detecting a pause in the film so it turns the lights on and off automatically... Like it would do if you paused a movie.

How are you guys running your scripts? Is it like my scenario above or do the demos continue in sequence without any pause in the action and the lights stay off?

What do you guys prefer?

Also how long would you have a script? I have them from 20 minutes to 8 minutes. I guess it might depend on who your audience is...

I am just looking at the best way to show them and figure this would have to be the place to ask!

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,

I'm not sure if I'm understanding exactly what you're saying. Do you just have a sequence of content playbacks in the script? No other steps?

There's a bug in the script playback stuff that was recently discussed here on another thread, where the player is emitting an event between steps that can cause control systems to bring the lights up. Various possible workarounds were discussed in that other thread. This is something that's on our radar to fix but I'm not sure when that will happen.

Yes, I just have a sequence of content playbacks… with no other steps like a Cover Art to introduce the clip.

I was unaware of a K bug on the scripts where the room lights come on in between each demo clip.

Since I have never seen anyone do Scripts from their own HT, the only reference I have is mine.

I assumed that there was a pause between playbacks, which in turned caused my blank screen and then my C4 turned the lights on.

When I text another K member I was under the impression that this pause / lights come on was not a desired state.

I was wondering if this is what is happening in everyone’s scripts or is everyone’s clips just continue without any pause or lights… Which would keep the action going.

You mentioned that your screen “goes white”. This is not something that others have reported, and it’s not part of the bug I mentioned. It’s not part of normal script behavior. It would be expected that there will be a gap of several seconds between content scenes when playing a script, but this is typically on a black screen as the media player gets ready to play the next piece of content.

The bug relates only to the extra control system event between script steps that’s causing the lights to come up. That’s what’s discussed in that other thread that I mentioned.

I don’t have a pause between scenes nor the lights come on when playing scripts. However, I don’t have a C4 control system either.

Unfortunately for me my "demo my HT" scripts is really limited since I have a standalone Strato V so hardly use teh feature. I keep Maverick and Ready Player One on the V and have a simple script I use if someone comes over and wants to see demo or I am testing new audio system calibration.

So I guess the question is why is my screen going white in between demos and what is turning my lights on?
This scenario is less than ideal and from what I’m gathering from others is not the norm. Wonder why I’m the only one with it.

To be clear, your screen going white is unusual and something others aren't experiencing.

Lights coming on between scenes is something that is affecting people with automation systems that turn on/off lights based upon cues from Kaleidescape. Based upon the different home automation system used, the solution may be different. Generally this involves either delaying the lights coming on or somehow disabling the lights while running scripts. I opted for the latter as I'd rather use custom "Play Script" and "End Script" buttons than sit there staring at the menu in the dark for several seconds waiting for my lights to come up.

👆 This.

Regarding the white screen, this is something that may need the assistance of your dealer or Kaleidescape Support to figure out. Does it happen between every script step, or just between certain content? (I'm wondering if perhaps it's being caused by a change in the type of content, like HDR <-> SDR, HD <-> 4K, 24fps <-> 60fps, etc.)

I use C4 and lights don't come on in between scenes on a script.

One way is to not have a lighting change tied to the return-to-OSD event. I don’t have lights tied to this, because I find it annoying for my lights to change if I’m doing something like watching scenes or songs. I have lights tied to the end-credits event, which gives a great cinematic effect at the end of the movie, especially for guests.

Yes it happens between every clip. I think a call to K support is a good recommendation.
