HDMI 2.0 vs 2.0a question

So the Strato datasheet post on the site says "Strato supports lossless multichannel audio, and is capable of playing HDR content on televisions and projectors that can process open standard 10-bit HDMI® 2.0a" but below in the listed outputs it says 2.0(and the audio 1.4 output). Wouldn't the output need to be listed at 2.0a. Any thoughts?

From the Strato PDF, which is on their site:

VIDEO DISPLAY FORMATS
HDR: HDMI 2.0a with support for
SMPTE ST 2084 EOTF, SMPTE ST 2086 metadata

Hi Phil,

HiFiGuy is correct, we do support 2.0a output. I'm not sure why it is listed as 2.0 elsewhere on the data sheet, but I'll try to find out. We may need to adjust that.

Mike, the PDF reads 2.0 and 1.4 under the audio section, which makes sense. The video section clearly states 2.0a, which is where that sub-spec is relevant. I don't know if you can call it an error, because technically that's what is needed in each area of output, but maybe breaking it down with those specifics is actually "too much information" in this case, and is creating confusion where there really shouldn't be any.

I did also notice that the player is capable of 12 bit video output under certain conditions. Would one of those include the future possibility of Dolby Vision compatibility?

Dolby Vision is pretty computationally intensive -- so much so that it's usually done with additional hardware support except on very powerful desktop-type platforms. Strato does not have hardware support for Dolby Vision, so we won't be able to support it with this platform.

Fortunately, the SMPTE-standard HDR format also looks great and will provide a rich and vibrant HDR experience!

Thanks for the reply. I agree that Open HDR/HDR10 looks great. HDR in general is such a better improvement than 4K resolution for most of us. Maybe we will have a platform in the next gen or so that will support Dolby Vision, too.
