Game of Thrones in 4K?

Why would it have any effect on Kaleidescape?
Will they lose the HBO content? Does this effect their licensing arrangement? Any price changes? I would be mad if they lose the licensing and the HBO stuff disappears. I have been holding off on buying several seasons hoping for a sale of some sort.

Well, this must mean that the Warner Bros. movies that have been going to HBO Max will be available sooner on K (and other streaming services).

Also, I haven’t seen anything about HBO going away so I can’t see how this would affect current content on the Store. I could have missed something as this is all breaking news.

The new head of HBO - who is also the head of Discovery - is a money man, not a creator of content at heart. (I've worked for Discovery a lot...) One of his first decisions as head of HBO was killing "Batgirl" even though that movie appears to have been almost completed. He said he killed it because he just wasn't sure it would be a big enough hit, or something equally absurd. And in a call with reporters a few days ago he reiterated that if they don't see a path to making significant profits, they won't be making it. (Marvel, in contrast, made something like "Guardians of the Galaxy" not expecting it to be a hit...) David Zaslav (that's the CEO) also immediately pulled several movies off HBO Max because they weren't getting enough play. And he reiterated that their emphasis going forward is theatrical releases, not digital. So while the situation is fluid, there is a risk that with Zaslav's "if I don't think it'll make a billion dollars, it shouldn't exist" approach, and "theatrical is paramount," digital distribution may no longer be a priority for Warner Bros. in general. But... we shall see.

I'm....not sure? They're showing up in the Special Pricing section for me, so I assumed they were on sale.
I definitely see them in the special pricing (and got the email) - but I’m not sure the price is actually lower …. Can K confirm if the price is lower, or is there a bug not showing special pricing?

Hey folks,

There's a problem with the pricing on this Game of Thrones sale. Hold tight, we'll get it sorted. It's a very good price. 😉

Hello all. I'm being told now that I may have been given some incorrect information. I'm seeking clarification now and will update this thread as soon as I know for sure.

Let’s see what Mike comes back with wrt the sale.

While I am tempted to get the set during a sale, I am also thinking the 4K version will be coming out soon, making me buy it again. So hold for 4K or buy now?

What are you doing?

Okay, apologies for the confusion. In the US, the promotional pricing was displayed correctly at $14.99.

What originally came to my attention was the Canadian pricing, because a customer emailed to ask if what was showing there was correct, and it turns out that it was not. The pricing shown on the Canadian store was initially $19.99, but that has now been updated to $14.99 as well.

The promotional pricing reflects a $10 savings for most seasons. I think seasons 7 and 8 were already a bit less so it's not as big of a drop on those two.

Enjoy!

If it's upgraded to 4K in the future, you won't be paying full price to upgrade, right? I don't know what the difference is, but it's not just the difference between the two formats?

Sometimes that's not the case. You end up paying almost full price even though you bought the HD format.
I bought The Great Escape in June for $14.99. The UHD version just came out. It's $21.54 to upgrade.
