Duplicate Title Delete?

My search found nothing on this. Sometimes, I have 2 or 3 copies of the same movie on my Terra. Is there an easy way to delete the SD and/or HD copies I do not want?

Not sure I would call it easy, but if you select the movie(s) you want to delete that have multiple copies, the system will come up and ask you which ones you want to delete. You can do it in one step, but may take awhile as the system executes the deletes... SJ

You bring up a good point regarding multiple resolutions of the same title. It's much easier to control which resolutions get downloaded when the movie is first purchased. Your system(s) determine the default download. For those with both Premiere and Strato systems, the default download will be all resolutions available for the selected movie, based on the components in your system (the Store sends resolutions to support playback on all components, assuming the resolution is available).

You have to manually remove the resolutions you don't want downloaded either during the purchase process, or in the Downloads section. Also, if you do have both Premiere and Strato systems, and you are using the Download section to remove a title/resolution, you will need to select the relevant system at the top of the Download page because the Store only shows one system at a time.

You can perform bulk deletes from the local browser interface of your system. To do so,
  1. Load the browser interface for your system (http://<server IP>/movies or http://my-kaleidescape (http://my-kaleidescape.local on a Mac)).
  2. On the movie list, titles that have multiple qualities downloaded will have a ">" to the left of the movie title.

  3. Put a tick mark in the box beside the titles that you want to delete (you can select which qualities later.

  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Select versions to delete...".
    MovieList3.jpg
  5. In the resulting popup, uncheck the versions that you want to keep and click "OK" to delete the selected movies.

One thing to beware of... when I have a version (say HD or UHD) and I download a new version (say HDR), if I delete that old version, the title is often removed from any movie collections that I've spent time adding it to. This includes default K collections like Favorites or Watch Soon, as well as my user-created collections. I suspect it is the result of each version having a unique identifier (and thus the system believing they are different movies), but it sure is annoying considering the amount of time I've spent adding movies to my many collections.

Now there are times where the collection memberships are retained, but I can't put my finger on when that happens versus when they are wiped out. Just something to be aware of if you use collections as much as I do.

Let's say you have the HD version downloaded and assigned to some collections. You then queue the HDR version of the movie for download.

If you delete the HD version *before* the HDR version finishes downloading then the collection memberships will be lost.

If you delete the HD version *after* the HDR version finishes downloading then the collection memberships should be retained.

I've made a habit for a long time to only delete the new version after both versions are on the system so there must be something unique going on with my system? Glad to hear the expected behavior is what we all would expect.

@J.Green - I'll try and make note the next time I run into the issue and send you a PM. Thanks for the reply!

Thank you, J. Green for showing me the way.

To piggyback off of the original question- is there a way to delete a specific version of a movie on a premiere system with duplicates. For example if I have the widesceen and fullscreen version of a movie I’d like to delete the fullscreen version. As far as I can tell these are one entity in the online browser so I delete both versions.

Worth a reminder that there is sometimes supplemental material like extras which are stored on the lower res versions for whatever reason. Hopefully at some point this will be changed. SJ

You cannot delete a specific version of the movie when talking about widescreen vs full screen (assuming both versions appear under a single piece of cover art). In some cases you may be able delete both versions and then only import the widescreen or full screen version, but this ONLY works if the two versions are on different discs or on different sides of a single disc. Downloads also work the same way. You can delete the entire download and re-download only the version you want IF there are multiple files that are queued for download (just remove the version you don’t want from the download queue). I believe in most cases that these types of versions are shared on a single file, but someone from K could speak more confidently about this.

In my experience, realistic expectations are that you are likely stuck with both versions or neither version.
