DIY fixing issues with hardware and D2D

ok did no 1 today. concentrating just on switch. Note having taken optical drive completely apart yesterday, this is the only switch in the drive.
Instruction on removing the Optical drive are on the Kaleidescape Support Page
I am currently testing by ripping a few dvds to Hard drive.

First pic of drive removed

See little pc board top left - this has the switch on it.
undo the two screws and remove the 2x plugs.
Remove board by sliding to right

I used Servisol 10 and also resoldered the pads on the switch to ensure no dry joints

Reassemble in reverse order.

Now I think the plastic mechanism shown behind this side panel gradually gives a bit and doesn't fully contact switch. If this is the case it is easy to elongate the holes on the board to allow small adjustments to the switch board to be moved slightly to the left

Looks like a fun project, but as the CEO posted yesterday, the replacement optical drives are available from K for those that would rather just swap the drive. Contact your Dealer or K directly to order one (or reach out to me directly if you don't have a dealer and need help).

Thanks but a new drive just because of this small design fault is unnecessary.
If laser goes then maybe a new drive. Although new lasers are in the Public Domain
The bigger issue is the hard drives. If these fail replacements it appears these are not available?

Don't misunderstand, I think what you're doing has value. There's no need to trash something if you have the skill to fix it, I'm just posting to remind people that don't have that skill, or the time or desire, that there's an alternative. I applaud your work, and your posts in this thread.

Yes agree. Most users would purchase a new drive if available and easy to do with the help of instructions on website

So this might upset some on here.
Was asked if a standard computer SATA DVD drive will work on a Cinnema One v.2. Picked out one I had lying around in the garage
Made up a 4 pin molex to Sata power lead, plugged it in and ...it works and rips at similar speeds. Can't vouch for BD Drives but dont't see why not.
The only question is what the small two pin (black wire) does. but unplugged doesn't seem to affect it.
A quick look and does not seem be a slot drive similar dimensions to the UBS003 So will need 2x Sata leads out of the box with drive external.
Personally if it gets to that stage I would probably go new drive from Kaleidescape, except in the UK the agents are not that useful. They can't supply new rear panels .............. and shipping from the states will be horrific.
