Disc to Digital Pricing Error ?

I catalogued the movie Weapons on Blu-ray and I submitted the UPC via the web GUI .
I’ve done this before and the D2D offer showed up within a few days with the correct discounted price.
This time it’s showing a discount of only a few cents. Has anyone come across this ?
Normally any Warner Brothers Discovery movies show up as $4.92 for 4K and $3.14 for HD.
Any information as to why this may be happening is welcome, thanks !

Interesting this hasn’t been a thing in the past and also, the newest Mission Impossible movie doesn’t have this restriction and that Blu-ray came out the same day as Weapons.
Is it a studio specific thing then ?

Mission Impossible released a month earlier in theaters though so it just depends when they “unlock” from being classed as a new release.

Not sure if it’s different per studio or a specific timeline but given they also have different price structures for new releases WB $39.99 vs Paramount $24.99 it wouldn’t surprise me if Paramount doesn’t have one at all.

With WB once the standard price drops to $24.99 then the normal $4.92 D2D will come become available.

Warner is the studio that's, um, exploring new pricing structures the most. $40 pre-order? Warner. No D2D when disc first hits? Warner. On the plus side, they're still one of the best studios for standard pricing, upgrades, D2D, etc. I suspect more studios will be following their lead.

It'll take a few weeks for WB to hit the discounted d2d pricing. Same with some Universal titles (Jurassic Rebirth and HTTYD live action). Look for when it goes on its first "sale price" offering, typically $14.99; that coincides with when it drops to $4.92 d2d)

That’s quite unfortunate as I’ve been cataloguing first day releases for a couple years now with no issue but I guess it’s just another sign of companies (studios) making very anti consumer decisions.

It’s not like we’re asking for free stuff .

I would probably never purchase the K version of HTTYD because only the disc has the IMAX shots unfortunately.

For $4.92, it's worth for it to me so I can add it to my scripts. And perhaps K will get an update like they did with Tron.

But, yes, very unfortunate no expanded shots with K. Studios are focusing on the imax footage being exclusive to theatres lately. F1 is the prime example. Dune 1+2 is another.
No support on disc either.

So best to support whatever format has it at home.

Yea, and it's only recently happening too, it seems. AFTER I buy into K, lol.
But I'm grateful we still have options. Studios are beginning to squeeze collectors on all fronts, but especially physical media.
I'm grateful for K. I was able to watch recent catalog releases like Tron, Kingdom of Heaven and Master and Commander, without paying scalpers or jumping through hoops. My pre-order for Tron Legacy is still pending fulfilment, what a joke.. That's ridiculous.
I feel sorry for physical media owners.
Play the lottery to get a disc day one, or just pay $80-100 to a scalper for a "limited" steelbook. No thanks.
For newer titles, we have to play the waiting game. Physical buyers wait next month for black Friday sales for titles released months or years ago. K owners now have to wait too, but only for a month or so, d2d included.
It's the best we'll get, but I'm glad we have options.

The reason they do it is to stop people buying the disc to get the D2D price and selling/returning or sharing the disc around because technically you should be retaining the disc if you buy on D2D. It’s all about maximising profit really.

Regarding buying a disk and returning it, what retailer would even allow this ?
To my knowledge having worked in retail before, we never accepted any open physical media whether it be a movie , tv show or video game.

There are some retailers in the UK that take the discs out then put them in the case when you buy, although it’s been an age since I’ve bought anything as a new release from a store so perhaps it’s not a thing with those anymore but you could return those.

I see a lot of people though that buy discs on release and then sell them straight away for £5 less claiming they watched once and moved on when I know full well they have NAS drives they backup their movies to.

The only people I know are on forums to be honest, as you say most people are happy with streaming. The thing is though any logical person can see Hollywoods obsession with preventing pirating doesn’t work, it just makes life more difficult for paying consumers who have no interest in stealing. KScape are only allowed to do what they do because they adhere to those demands.

Ultimately it’s all about maximising profits and whether it makes sense in the real world or not, if there is a theoretical situation where money could be lost from early buyers returning things or sharing discs, they’re going to lock it down.

I agree with you both though that it makes no sense because if people are sharing/returning the disc they can just watch the disc, catalogue it and wait for the D2D regardless.
