Is there any BD disc to 4K/HDR digital or DVD disc to 4K/HDR digital upgrade path? And if so how do those discounts look compared to buying the 4K movie outight on encore?
BD to HD digital is $5.99 across the board where D2D is offered. I presume DVD to HD digital is a hair more with a standard price. Perhaps that's the $8.99 then.
Yeah, the prices are all over the place because it's studio dependent. Some of those quoted are not truly D2D offers as they are offering you the movie at full store price. It doesn't matter that you had the disc.
Fox - Aliens in the Attic: DVD > HD $21.99
Fox - All About Steve: DVD > HD $21.99
NBCU - Along Came Polly DVD > HD $8.99
Disney - Around the World in 80 Days (Chan version): DVD > HD $19.99 (Disney)
Disney - Bambi: DVD > HD $26.99
The Boondock Saints II : BR > SD (going down in resolution) $15.99
Fox - Castaway: DVD > HD $17.99
Paramount - Chocolat: DVD > HD $23.99
If I break the above list down:
- Disney offers no D2D at all of theirs are just full price purchases.
- Fox offers $6.99 to go from BD to HD, but Fox doesn't offer discount upgrading resolution. So Fox BD to UHD is full price.
- NBCU is a good one. They charge $6.99 BD to HD and $11.99 for BD to UHD. Looks like it's $8.99 then for DVD to HD.
- Sony generally has similar pricing to NBCU as well as Lionsgate.
- Warner offers $6.99 for BD to HD and $15.99 for BD to UHD.
- Paramount is usually the same as Warner; however, not all titles are D2D. In the case above, Chocolat is not D2D so it's just giving you full price.
- MGM doesn't offer it. Most of the smaller studio doesn't either.
I tried with Lionsgate titles the other day (BR to 4K) and it didn't offer any upgrade price (I tried with The Gentleman). Is it title dependent? I can try a couple others today and see.
Weird. It is a Lionsgate release. Just did the same with Ex Machina and same thing. It is a Liknsgate release too (A24 films).
