Change Subtitle Luminance and Size

I am a recent Kaleidescape owner. I rely on subtitles quite a bit, and having a scope screen, along with an anamorphic lens, one feature that Kaleidescape offers that is quite appealing is the setting to always keep them in the content area. This was definitely one of the things that contributed to my interest in the Kaleidescape system. I'm glad to say, this works perfectly, and is greatly appreciated.

To make it even better, I would like to see a feature added that would allow us to modify subtitle appearance. At the least, being able to decrease its Luminance would be a huge improvement. I am able to do this with both of my Panasonic Blu-ray players, and both AppleTV and Roku provide numerous options to modify the font, size, color, background, etc. In dark scenes, the fairly bright, white subtitles can be pretty distracting, and even alter the image itself because of their impact on Dynamic Laser settings, Dynamic Tone Mapping algorithms, etc.

I don't think Kaleidescape needs to offer all of these modifications (although it would be nice!), but if we could adjust Luminance and perhaps size, that would be extremely helpful.

Thank you.

It's my understanding that adding the ability to adjust Subtitle Luminance (and possibly size?) is 'likely' to be added at some point. I know upcoming features are never given an ETA (understandably), so I just wanted to re-post to emphasize the importance of this to me.

After 2 months, I am absolutely loving the Kaleidescape experience - so much better than playing discs - but this is one area where disc is better - I can adjust Subtitle Luminance, which has a dramatic impact when watching, since so many movies have pretty dark scenes.

Hoping for sooner than later! 🤞 🤞

I find subtitles overall very distracting. If I’m with someone who requires them, especially in a room without acoustic treatment, I slouch down enough so my knees block the bottom of the screen. In my theater, dialogue is crisp and I can usually convince folks to let go of subtitles.

But I agree that more control over subtitle appearance is a huge win for all audience members.

I also find them distracting, but due to the somewhat inevitable age-related high frequency hearing deficit, I find them close to a necessity. I wish that wasn't the case, but it is what it is. Making them less distracting controlling luminance and size is therefore very appealing.

Amazon Prime on the Fire stick is currently the gold standard for subtitle flexibility. It has multiple fonts, font sizes, and colors. I don’t think luminance can be adjusted on it, but that would be a nice picture as well. I wish Kaleidescape would follow this model.

I meant luminance would be a nice OPTION, not a nice picture. Siri autocorrect mistake.

Having an OLED in a dark room makes low light scenes awful. The subtitles are searingly bright (maybe HDR makes this even worse as well?) Having luminance and size adjustments is by far my #1 request. Any insight? @MikeKobb @J.Green
I reached out to K support team in March to request the feature and they mentioned they are aware of this and are listening. This seems to be a common request. Was hopeful that we will get in last firmware update but I guess we need to wait.

I suggest that everyone send email to support@kaleidescape.com (if not already) to help prioritize this feature.
