Cataloging Your Disc Collection

Nice write-up. Your cataloged content will remain in your account once it's cataloged by a component that was added to your system. This remains true even if you subsequently remove the component from the system.

There are positives to you using a Vault to catalog, but there are less problems with jams and such when using an Alto or Cinema One 2Gen. If the Vault feeds the discs, and doesn't jam, it's obviously a less labor intensive way to catalog, and a good choice for large disc collections.

Now comes the fun part, deciding what to add from the D2D list.

Well into that already and purchased a couple of batches. Working through the rest later today. After that we will leave it for a while and see how the remainder stack up. For now I have stuck to the decent/fair value ones and all the favourites. The Marvel ones don’t appear to be great reductions and so hoping for a sale on those at some point ;) TBH we have a lot of watching to do. Two sad omissions are the 4khdr atmos versions of private Ryan and also The new West Side Story. Hopefully they will be added at some e point. Got the blu ray on the former for now. Bit daft as I have the 4k disk and the 4k Apple version but just love that movie.
 
Most of us are waiting for an HDR/Atmos version of SPR. I decided to wait awhile with the hope it will eventually be available, I haven't watched the HD version that I downloaded from the Store.

You may get lucky with this. There have definitely been Marvel sales in the past.

I've catalogued hundreds of discs with my DV-700 no issue, including ejecting many DVDs once they were catalogued and showed up in the disc to digital offers (which occurs quickly for me, perhaps due to my gigablast internet). I even ejected like 50 discs that I want to keep in the vault, temporarily this past weekend, as I was cleaning house on old DVDs by loading them in the vault for cataloging only, and then when I was done I reloaded the like 50 discs back into the vault. No problem. It should be noted that I got this vault in the past year and it was the last reconditioned DV-700 vault available from Kaleidescape. Lucky me!

In recent years Marvel has had at least 2 sales per year if my memory is any good.
 
Yep - did the May 4th thing with the Wars movies but that was before the D2D cataloguing. I am guessing the 'offer' was cheaper than the D2D but will never know now.

That does prompt a question. Since cataloguing the D2D prices are displayed rather than the normal pricing.

I just wondered what happens if there is then a sale? I would assume it automatically shows whichever is the cheapest pricing but if it’s a big sale and choices have to be made :) then it would be helpful to know how much cheaper that sale price is per movie. I guess it makes sense to keep a list of the D2D pricing for the catalogued items handy for when the sales are on, I will perhaps put one in a spreadsheet unless there is a simpler answer?. Thinking about it I am about to find out with the Bond movies!

Bit like the proverbial kid in the sweetie/candy shop right now :)

Yes, the $10 May the Fourth sale is much cheaper than D2D pricing. D2D pricing for the Star Wars movies is normally $21.67.

I just open the store in an incognito window (or another browser that you're not logged into the store with) to compare my D2D vs. regular pricing.

Yes, it will always show whatever price is cheapest. There have been a couple bugs with that here and there but that's the norm.

I noticed recently that a lot of my digital offers are coming in at new prices, this $13.42 price which really isn't all that much of a discount. I wonder if the pricing changes and the feature are related.

I'm super crossing fingers that we can connect 4K-capable drives and catalog 4K discs -> 4K digital copies at the much reduced prices. So much they can do here. I'm eager to learn more. K will destroy the resale value of the old Cinema Ones and Altos, which is fine. It's been so janky that it has been the only way to migrate physical media in to buy old and often broken hardware.

fuggetaboutit. ;) It was asked, the features relies on the Kaleidescape internal BD and SD cataloguing infrastructure.​

 
This is much needed and long overdue. It will be especially helpful for new customers with large existing libraries.

Did they say whether 4K media can be cataloged directly or still just Blu-Ray HD?
