They have been for UHD titles from Sony that have upgraded to HDR when released on disc.

John

“Spectre” now also added in HDR:

This is fantastic! Thanks to everyone involved in making this happen!
Emptying 24 more slots, roughly 200 discs left in my last vault(used to have 4).

All 24 Bond films have been added - 4 in HDR and the rest in UHD. I wasn’t expecting the 20 titles in UHD - I thought they would all be HD.

A few notes.

Before anyone mentions Atmos, note that the 4k disc Daniel Craig Collection does not have Atmos on any discs in the set.

These are all big downloads, 80GB+ in most cases for just the 4k downloads. Note that the 4k Daniel Craig Collection discs are all BD-66s. Kaleidescape is consistently delivering greater than disc quality.

Note that iTunes has had the Bond films in 4k for a little while now. On iTunes, most are only 4k and only a similar subset is in HDR. In the long run, maybe MGM will HDR update more of the movies, but the 4 of 22 in HDR on Kaleidescape is based on available assets.

I've inquired about a bundle option.

See they've all dropped in price to $27.99 - just after I downloaded the first of them :)

Ignore - apologies just the UK pricing I entered the UK store by mistake 🤦‍♂️

WHOOOO HOOOO (gonna need another Terra at this rate - haha)

@TrackZ Awesome notes. That really would be epic on the bundle option. Be good if Disney would do the same on Star Wars but I can't see that happening this side of never.

@telem That's good work Kostas. I've managed to get from over 3 vault worth of Blu-Rays to just under capacity of 2. However, I'm pretty stuck now, it varies between store but I've still 885-1084 titles not available for digital. Some of those are DVD but means a solid chunk is BR. They occasionally appear with a new D2D though; Salmon Fishing in the Yemen came available recently.

A couple of additions:

1. No more HDR versions are apparently in the queue. Per my prior post, MGM has only published a few of titles in HDR at all. Also as mentioned earlier by @JohnJ, perhaps as more of the titles make it to UHD disc, we will see HDR passes on them. The movies are harmonized pricing though, so if HDR updates do come, you'll just get it. Nothing to re-buy.

2. Casino Royale apparently has some technical issue and will be updated later this week. Keep an eye on the new content update feature.

There will definately be more HDR releases coming, and that is not an assumption, it will happen. (but cannot state a timeframe, nor do I know which movies)

So this is a confirmation that the files that K sells and plays are better quality- color depth wise, audio sampling maybe- than what you can buy on the 4K disks? Am I understanding this correctly?

The size of a movie's file/download is directly related to the bit rate used and encoding details of the file. The larger the file, the higher the bit rate and effective quality.

Most movies on disc are put on BD66 discs, which are 66GB capacity. That disc has to hold the movie plus all the extra stuff, menus, and so on carried on it. BD discs go up to 100GB, but those are rarely used. If you look up disc releases on blu-ray.com, it generally shows the disc size used for the release. So when a movie is on a BD66, something under 66GB is as large as the movie can possibly be. More often than not, that movie will be <50GB based on my prior ripping experience.

So when a Kaliedescape download is 75GB+ and going on 90GB+ vs. a BD66 carried movie, you are inherently getting higher fidelity. That entire download is the movie as well. Avengers: Endgame was a BD66 release, but like a 103GB download on Kaleidescape. That difference is significant in measurement, and we are getting something extra for our dollars spent. This delta is something I pay attention to, and it's becoming more and more frequent.

I'll leave it up to your eyes to determine the difference or some really techical pixel peeper reviewers to do some A/B comparisons.
