Just ordered C1 + DV700 .... Waiting for delivery so have question please. There is much made of how the K system strips out movie trailers etc and you just press play to go straight to the main movie but can you still get to extras/menus/ bonuses easily? Or not at all?
Many thanks

Yes, you still have access to the full disc, including Trailers, additional content, etc. The ability to bypass the trailers, warnings, etc. by selecting "Play Movie," is an option, it is not a requirement. Selecting "Play Disc" will cause the disc to playback just as it would in a BR/DVD Player.

That said, the contents you mentioned, in particular "extras," can only be accessed if they are available. As a few forum members have noted, some content downloaded from the K Store has been limited to the movie only, with the "extras" being noticeably absent. The physical disc version of the same movie, if imported, will of course display all of the content available on the disc.

Unfortunately, the corollary to that is that using Play Disc will cause it to try and run through all the trailers, warnings, and flotsam as if it were a regular player (despite it still knowing where everything is.) There seems to be about a 1-second window when loading where you might be able to skip to the top menu, but it takes some real practice.

The good news is many special features are available from the navigation menu when you hit Play Movie. It just isn't guaranteed (and of course: no disk means at your risk.)

I NEVER use "Play Disc" because of all the forced trailers and warnings. If you want to get to extras, you can sometimes find them right in the menu for that movie in the movie details screen, or there's a neat shortcut to getting to a DVD menu screen without going through all the previews and trailers and warnings: Choose "Play Movie", which starts (or resumes) the movie, then hit "Disc Menu" on your remote or app or control system. Now you're at the DVD menu where you can find all the extra features. Much faster than "Play Disc".

Many thanks guys, really looking forward to delivery of the gear so I can start to have a play. Will be using the DV700 probably exclusively for discs because my broadband is so slow that downloading a BR from KStore would probably take literally days so should have access to all the usual disc goodies

This is a great tip for DVD's. However, this doesn't seem to work for BR discs. Is a different command that works for BR as opposed to DVD's?

It will work for some Blu-ray Discs but not others. Discs that have been authored using the HDMV format will usually still have their menus available if playback was started using the "Play Movie" play item. However, discs authored using BD-J will not. The only way to get at the disc menu in this case is to either:

a) stop playback and restart using the "Play Disc" menu item; or,
b) during playback, activate the playback options menu, select the "Blu-ray Features" tab and select "Play Disc".

However, neither of these options will skip you past the FBI warnings, trailers, etc. In the case of a BD-J disc, it just isn't possible.

Thanks. I was hoping I was missing something but, alas...no.

John
