Just heard from a source that 750gb drives for the big servers will be priced at $1245.

500gb drives will remain available for the current $995 price.

I was hoping they'd just drop the 500s and price the 750s at $995. No such luck, at least while they still have supplies of 500s.

No confirmation yet from Kaleidescape on those prices, but that's the word from a reliable source.

Josh,
Those prices are correct.

No 750gb drives yet for 5U servers!

NEW INFORMATION:

Kaleidescape will NOT be releasing 750gb drives for the 5U server when they release their new products next week. 500gb drives remain the largest available for this product. I'm sure they will do it at some point (or maybe go straight to 1tb drives), but for now they have said that they have not yet qualified any larger drives for our big servers.

750gb drives ARE about to be released for the new 1U servers, but it's a completely different drive (in addition to the obviously different housing). The 1U server uses low-profile SATA (serial ATA) drives. The 5U server uses regular-height PATA (parallel ATA) drives.

Sorry for the bad news... but it's direct from Kaleidescape executive team.

750 gb drives

Just heard today from engineering at Kaleidescape that the 750 GB drives have been approved for the 5u (big) servers. Good news.

Yes, I just confirmed this... 750gbs WILL be released very shortly. They have now been certified.

And welcome to the forums JCHS!

Thanks!
Cool forum, with plenty of great info. Wish people would add their favorite scenes - a great thing to share!

Thanks JCHS - welcome to the forums. I agree - had hoped more people would share scene marker files. Hopefully the new lower-priced servers will expand the user base and raise activity here.

I've heard Kaleidescape may find a way to let their owners know about these forums - via an email or a link from Kaleidescape's website. That will help too...

Heh... while Kaleidescape hasn't officially (publicly) announced 750gb disks for the 5U server, this answer on their FAQ kinda spills the beans that they're coming:
...A single Kaleidescape 5U Server fully loaded with twelve 750 GB Disk Cartridges can hold approximately 1,230 DVDs or 13,750 CDs.

If you speak to support, they'll confirm that the 750G drives are shipping. I had a support issue right after CEDIA and found out about them. I ordered 2 the same day. I've had them in production for about 2 weeks. Other than a little red sticker on the front of the hard drive enclosure, they look and act the same as the 500G drives.
