4K vs HD quality in older movies

grit

Well-known member
I saw where the Back to the Future trilogy is being re-released in 4K.

Is there anywhere (forum, website, etc) to tell if/how/to what extent a re-release (or release of an older movie) is improved from the previous HD version?

If you're referring to the K Store release updates, the only source that I know of explaining the download improvements is the My Updates link in the Manage section of your account. Not sure if there's a forum/blog, etc.. that does similar.

Normally, as long as it's "real" 4K (not upscaled from a 2K print), we can assume noticeable improvements, especially if the release is HDR. I think the main limiting factor that affects what you actually see on screen, is the type of display and screen size. Not sure what the BTTF releases will look like, but I assume they'll be excellent, being released in 4K HDR, and those do come from a master that allows for true 4K. (from what I remember).
