  • 🔷Why can't I make a new post here in "The Marketplace"? 🤔

    All registered users can reply to other members' posts here in the Marketplace, to respond as potential buyer or ask questions of the seller.
    However, only members who have paid to become "Premium" members or "Patrons" can make a new "for sale" post here in Marketplace.

    Premium memberships can be purchased for as little as $10... a very reasonable fee in order to sell equipment here, far lower than the seller's fee would be on eBay or Audiogon or other sites. Our site doesn't sell ads or sell user's information. This small fee is the only source of funds for the site to offset the costs it takes to run the forum.

For sale is my 3U server, located in the UK. I have replaced it with a new 1U server.

It is grandfathered (i.e can import DVDs) and has 2x4TB, 1x3TB, 7x2TB and 4 empty slots.

As the 3U servers have a parity disk and a hot spare, the 2x 4TB are used for parity and hot-spare, leaving 17TB of usable space.

You can easily add 4x 6TB disks, or even replace the hot-spare with a 6TB and then add 4 further 6TB disks. Of course you can pull 2TB disks and replace and let the RAID array rebuild. A 3U server full of disks is like 4x 1U server in terms of content.

I work for a Kaleidescape dealer, so they will look after you in the future if you want.

It comes with the standard Kaleidescape Demo content, but i'll have to delete all the movies and music to comply with the Kaleidescape licence.

I'm asking £6500. I have the original shipping box and can ship if needed.

This should NEVER be recommended unless you are 100% certain all the other drives in the system are in good condition.
 
Yes, doing a Raid rebuild is risky in that if another drive fails you have no backup. Kaleidescape therefore recommend you don’t force a raid rebuild, Thank you for pointing that out, I should have been more clear

Adding drives is not risky, and I can’t see how swopping the hot spare is risky as that will not cause a rebuild. (But only worth doing when you have spare slots as basically largest drives become hot spare and parity, i.e do that before adding any more drives)

I know various people who have pulled small drives and replaced with larger on full servers (ie 1u) as the recommended solution (partex and install new server and copy all data across) is more costly than changing a drive. There is of course the current excellent offer for those wanting to upgrade / partex an old server.

The nice thing about this server is there are 4 free slots and it's spend it's life in a rack on a UPS

Actually it is (or it will be very shortly, as I need to copy the data back off it into another servers who's disks failed)
