    Kaleidascape 6TB Strato Power Issue

    A lot of "computer" based problems arise from the internal clock being out of sync or not running right. There's a small battery on the mainboard, that when it loses its charge, will whack up the computer. Open up the Strato and see if it has one of those. Just pop in a brand new one, and try again.

    Yes, SSD would be part of the design brief, because vibrations and bumps can kill a classic hard drive. Something like a Strato-C form factor could easily be integrated in a size-constrained environment like a car, RV or small boat. Think of the computer you'd see in a (USA) police vehicle...

    I use a 32Gb version, but would never buy one that small again. 64Gb is perfect for a few apps. I run apps like Wikipedia, IMDB, the 2 KScape apps, etc.

    I'd love to see a new Strato with both SSD and a player, all in one, for use in mobile applications. Think RVs, Expedition campers, and rear-seat entertainment in family vehicles. And maybe for smaller boats, not super yachts. Easy to download movies via WiFi at home, but then be able to use it...

    Onkyo Support finally emailed me back, and gave me instructions on how to do a factory reset on my receiver... Guess I'll be doing that next, though I don't really want to do another round of Dirac measurements to calibrate the room...

    The issue you're describing sounds like a transfer speed issue between your Terra and Strato. The issue I'm seeing is actually transmitting the video and audio data from the Strato to the receiver and TV, in my case.

    Not specifically. I had it at the start of a movie just now. I think, as others have stated, it's likely the Onkyo TX-RZ50 having issues. Everything is power protected and such, but it still broke, it seems.

    I'll see what Onkyo says first. Cables are all the same now, brand new, all 6ft. There's only so much I can change in the cabling setup though...

    Thanks Jim It's always good to get small things up to par, such as cables, power supplies, etc. I've opened a case with Onkyo, I wonder how long it'll take them to come back with a solution. The RZ50 is just a few months old, so I hope they'll just warranty-exchange for a new unit.
