    Just imagine…

iTunes is kind of the gold standard as far as digital content availability goes and even they have several notable holes. As long as all of these boutique physical media labels continue to have exclusive rights for their catalog releases Kaleidescape and other digital retailers will continue to...

Missing Alternative Cuts in 4K HDR

For me it is more about my prefered version not being available on the store or in an inferior quality.

Missing Alternative Cuts in 4K HDR

DISCLAIMER: I am doing a bit of speculation here based on what I have seen in the store historically. As far as I can tell these were more common when the store titles were based on bluray images and K was not doing their own encoding. There are some that once existed on the store and have...

US BR & 4K Releases for January & February 2024

Putting the pieces together, it seems like we are just caught in the crossfire of the streaming wars. All of these studios have invested and lost a ton of money on streaming services, most of them have been hammered by the unraveling of the cable bundle and they have also had to deal with a...

US BR & 4K Releases for January & February 2024

I count exactly one catalog title in HDR from Warner and Paramount in the last 6 months; The Fugitive. Part of me wonders how much Disc2Digital affects this. Do they make more money on original sales?

US BR & 4K Releases for January & February 2024

Apparently releasing most catalog titles in HDR and providing alternate cuts of movies is no longer economically feasible.

Does "disc to digital" support UHD (4K) discs?

In most cases there are no extras on the 4k disc and they are on the included bluray.

US BR & 4K Releases for January & February 2024

I am waiting to see if we get any of the new Columbia Classics titles with HDR so we can continue panicking about the state of catalog releases.

Concerned about the longevity of the Server.

When making decision regarding hard drive purchases I usually consult the backblaze stats. Most of the Kaleidescape drives I have seen have been Western Digital. No guarantee that is what is in the terra prime but you could still get an idea on general failure rates for hard drives by looking...

    New D2D Pricing

Yesterday afternoon when the D2D prices went haywire TZ was $5.88 a season. I am now seeing it at $17.27.

    New D2D Pricing

Twilight Zone seasons jumped from $5.88 up to $17.27! Did Star Trek do the same thing?

Does "disc to digital" support UHD (4K) discs?

It isn’t currently in stock, but this is what I used to catalog all of my discs including UHD discs. I had mixed luck with getting a match on UHD discs and in most cases just used the included bluray. I only had a few that didn’t include blurays and I think almost all of them were from...

    Movies on Sale...

It will give you the lowest price between buying all of the missing titles at their current price or the current set price e.g. if you own 2 out of 3 titles in a given set and the last title is $14.99 and the set price is $29.99 you will only pay $14.99 for the last title.

    Last movie watched

Little Miss Sunshine Watched Little Miss Sunshine for the first time last night and was completely blown away. One of the few movies that had me both laughing out loud and completely captivated from start to finish. The performances were stellar across the board and the ending was perfect.

How do TV series appear on the wall.

Mike Kobb layed out the reasons why this likely hasn’t been done yet in the thread I linked. It is a non-trivial amount of software work because it would require database changes that would ripple through all of the downstream products. Also, are you sure the strato is using an FPGA?

    Merry Xmas from James Cameron

Curiosity got the better of me and I pulled the trigger on Aliens last night. As soon as I saw the Fox logo I knew something was off. Turns out the black level is raised on both the HDR and UHD versions which gives the film a washed out look. Just to make sure, I hooked my Strato up to my C1...
