    Home Router Recomendations

I'm a fan of pfSense, personally. You can use any hardware you want, it's super stable, and super flexible. +1 for Ubiquitti APs, what's what I have for APs as well.

Control 4 or Crestron question about remote programming

@livitup The software solution is "always" there (unified movie lists, and the Strato player can select any movie to play). The Co-Star hardware gives you a mechanism to switch inputs trivially (hook it up and you're done). If you can switch inputs via another mechanism (like the Kaleidescape...

Control 4 or Crestron question about remote programming

This confused me as well. There are two "versions" (for lack of a better term) of Co-Star: A software solution, and a software/hardware solution. The software solution: The Kaleidescape provides a unified interface. (At least on Crestron: The Kaleidescape-provided module provides hooks so you...

Control 4 or Crestron question about remote programming

Ah, got it. Since we were discussing NVX in depth, I just assumed that's what you're using. If not, the Kaleidescape module (as you found) gives you the tools you need to control hardware on your own. If you have the Kaleidescape players going into different inputs of a receiver, say, than yeah...

Control 4 or Crestron question about remote programming

Yeah, all menu controlling is done by the Strato in a Co-Star environment. Menu is no longer displayed by M-500/Alto player. Note, also, that you don't need your own stepper. The Kaleidescape module can output an analog signal that can be routed directly to the NVX card to tell it which input...

Control 4 or Crestron question about remote programming

Note that only the fancier, more expensive NVX cards (like the DM-NVX-350 and up) allow HDMI output. Now you'd likely use these anyways with Kaleidescape due to Co-Star (allow both Strato and M-500 players to go into the DM-NVX-350 card, let the Kaleidescape module on Crestron pick the right...

Control 4 or Crestron question about remote programming

Again, from the Crestron WWW site for NVX: I guess we can nit-pick over the definition of "Pixel Perfect". In my case, I actually did do an A/B comparison of NVX vs. direct, all else equal (same cable quality, etc). I could trivially see the difference between 1080P and 4K on a large screen...

Control 4 or Crestron question about remote programming

Compression isn't "bad". In fact, it can be just fine if no data is lost. From the "DM NVX™AV-over-IP System Design Guide": Lots of compression algorithms are 100% lossless. Common ones: flac (for music), zip or bzip2 or gzip for computer data, etc. These are 100% lossless. Compress...

43". It was hard to find something much smaller than that unless it was a computer monitor. And a computer monitor would be unlikely to have built-in speakers, which I wanted for the kitchen.

Control 4 or Crestron question about remote programming

I think that HDR / SDR is an exception, but to be honest, I'm not sure about that. You'd need to check with Crestron, or a Crestron dealer. I ended up updating all my displays to be 4K capable displays because: (1) It is primarily cost driven - the cost to upgrade displays was cheaper than...

Control 4 or Crestron question about remote programming

If worse comes to worse, you could use an NVX-350 card, which will convert to whatever you need, in the kitchen. Then you could use the old (original) display. But when I looked at it, the cost to upgrade my displays (and I kind of wanted 4K anyway) was nominal - TVs are just inexpensive these...

Control 4 or Crestron question about remote programming

One of the really nice things about Crestron (and indeed, one of the reasons I upgraded from AMX), was because they are the gorilla in the room. That means that, from an automation perspective, Crestron has a ton of different partners that work with them to create modules for their components...

Control 4 or Crestron question about remote programming

New follower of this forum, thought I'd chime in: I have no experience with Control 4. I used to use an AMX system years ago, it was fine, but proprietary control panels (that were clunky) and lack of integration with HDMI switchers and the like (at least at the time) was limiting. I ended up...

    Broken 3U Server

Just wanted to follow up, there are after-market power supplies available. See my post at the end of: https://www.kscapeowners.com/XF/threads/purchase-a-power-supply-for-kserver-5000.3448/ The company that manufactured the original power supply will sell you a brand new one with a modified...

Purchase a power supply for Kserver-5000

On May 16th (when the last post to this thread was made), I guess Kaleidescape had replacement power supplies for the KSERVER-5000. That's no longer the case. Currently, the KSERVER-5000 is out of warrentee and, since no refurbished units (nor parts) are available, Kaleidescape could not help...
