    DVD CCA appeal "settled"?

This now up on the DVD CCA website; doesn't look like we will get many gory details on the matter, but as expected it is the previously filed injunction which just has its date changed to 30th Nov 2014. http://www.dvdcca.org/documents/dvdcca-v-kaleidescape-statement-press-release-20140206.pdf

    DVD CCA appeal "settled"?

I was pretty sure it was the general opinion that the original injunction was worded in such a way that even the Vault solution would not satisfy the DVD requirements. The bit you are looking for is point 4 - "does not make a persistent playable copy of any title"...

    DVD CCA appeal "settled"?

Interesting times ahead. DVD CCA is a trade organisation, so it is hard to see how they could make an agreement just with Kal (without it forming some kind of precedent). There is only one DVD CCA license and tech specs for everyone wanting to develop DVD technologies to sign. If they've...

    DVD CCA appeal "settled"?

Surprised this hasn't been picked up anywhere or resulted in an update to Kal's legal page... anyone know what the deal is? http://appellatecases.courtinfo.ca.gov/search/case/dockets.cfm?dist=6&doc_id=2007955&doc_no=H038037 05/12/2014 Request for dismissal filed. by appellant...

    Update on Prima Cinema

I think the niche is only big enough if you can get a better spread of content, and I think the writing is on the wall for that in any kind of nice timeframe. Universal being invested in PC is probably going to be their biggest problem - I mean, can you see the rest of Holywood queuing up to...

    Kaleidescape launches movie download store

John Sciacca had some pricing details in his blog post. Roughly half the way down the page. http://johnsciacca.webs.com/apps/blog/show/20860825-kaleidescape-opens-industry-leading-download-store

    Kaleidescape launches movie download store

I'd also love to know when this will hit the UK... any clues? Interesting that WB is the first to offer; WB own Flixster who do their UV fulfilment, and also Rotten Tomatoes which featured in the recent ipad app updates. Flixster is available in the UK but the title selection is tiny still -...

    K download store

I guess there are assumptions at play here; but in the case of UV you can't sell the rights to the titles or even transfer them free of charge out of a locker (currently). It is currently a non-transferable license to you to view the content on up to 12 devices.

    K download store

There is a massive unofficial UV FAQ here: http://www.uvdemystified.com/uvfaq.html There is no VC1 support (and VC1 was viewed by some to be the better codec for picture quality). The top spec media profile is pretty good (1080p H264 with HD audio), but the content providers don't have to...

4K Bluray- correct me if I am wrong, but K's vault / server system now would support 4K with new players...

This place is full of interesting chat at the moment! :) I've seen LG talk about there being some 4K content on BD as early as next year. The capacity of even Double Layer BD is such that 4K content would either have to be quite short or compressed to a point where the video artifacts probably...

    K download store

Very interesting questions. In the case of Ultraviolet, you can't sell the rights or transfer them out of an account. In fact you can't split titles within a locker either into two separate lockers - which might be interesting in the case of "digital divorce". Of course all of those things...

    Update on Prima Cinema

Yeah, I figured. In the video that is on Youtube I could only count titles mostly from Universal, plus one Weinstein and one Magnolia. Shame as to be attractive it really needs to be a "whole of market" service. Hope they can get more signed up as it will mark a changing of the times...

    Update on Prima Cinema

Posts in the other threads on movie downloads reminded me about Prima Cinema; anyone know what is going on there? I see very little press on them out there, and as far as I'm aware the only content provider signed and sealed (and public) is still Cinedigm (independent movies distributor -...

    Views on Kaleidescape's secrecy policies

It wasn't exactly secret at CEDIA - they had it on their popup marketing material - just no detail to go with it. http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/09/kaleidescape-teases-movie-download-store-brings-rotten-tomatoes/ I think that is actually the real problem. Everyone can see that this class...

    Views on Kaleidescape's secrecy policies

Very interesting. I do think Tesla are a better comparison, and their blog is a bit of a revelation; the cynic in me says some of the posts only exist to debunk stuff which is only public due to their corporate structure; but I think there is a genuine desire to share & engage a bit more in...

    Views on Kaleidescape's secrecy policies

I must say though I cringe a little when I see comparisons between CI kit and luxury goods such as Bentley, Rolex, etc. I don't think they really hold water; the purchase of such true luxury goods is more often than not driven by a desire of the customer to have some of the brand cachet to rub...

I doubt it is possible to support that codec on the current hardware.

    K download store

I don't doubt that it is technically possible to build a store selling BD images - there isn't anything particularly difficult in that. It is all about the content. I do doubt at the moment that there is a large collection of current, studio-sanctioned BD images ready to download; it seems...
