1U Power Supply Issue???

Can someone tell me what a 1U acts like when the power supply goes bad. On my 1U if I push the power button the blue backlight flash for just a fraction of a second and then the server will not power up. I'd like to know if others have had this same experience? Thanks! Brent

I have as well as it powering up and then dying moments and sometimes minutes later.
As I am sure you know getting a replacement Semisonic 1U PSU is all but impossible but there is an alternative that I have been using in a couple of old 1U's I have that are left running in my apartment and have been working well for the last 6 months or so. Perhaps there are prettier solutions out there but this works, costs around £100 / $130 and turns an old 1U 'doorstop' with a failed PSU into a useful server again. I have now placed the power brick inside the server case as I found the power connector wasn't the tightest of fitting when mounted through the case. Link to the post I made last year.

Thanks Mark! It appears Amazon US has the PSU in stock, but I can't find the power brick. Do you by chance know of another power brick that will work?

Additionally, I checked with K and Rusty he said "you can try a service kit (power supply) for the KSERVER-1500, SVC-KIT-0020." Jim checked the price for me and retail is $596. I think I like your route better.

WOW that is expensive, didn't know they had the service kits but I did hear they were trying to source some for the legacy Premier Line servers as there is certainly a demand for them based upon my experience and others here on the forum. This PSU should be OK on amazon.com as mine were bought in Europe hence the model / availability differences

Keep in mind the fact that the K service kit includes other items that should be replaced.

K has found that those item fail as well when one changes the power supply.

Had to change a customers power supply on a 2 U server and it included all new fans and a few other things.

A 3U has a lot more parts included in the PSU service kit (I have done some of those too) compared to a 1U. Good that Kaleidescape is making them available as I would prefer the original solution but when there was no alternative a work around was needed.

Just to be clear for those that contacted me, I do not view the above post by jjay117 as "marketing," he's a member trying to help other members, not a business, and any compensation for his help is negligible. We all know getting PSU's and other parts for some of the old Servers can be challenging when they are not in stock at K, or perhaps prohibitive in cost for some owners, so members helping members is a good thing and one of the reasons this Forum exists.

I can offer you my services or assist you with a solution.
Thanks Jay! I found a solution using parts from Amazon. I tested it for several weeks and worked fine. I ended up buying a 3u and moved my drives over to it. I’m looking for a used set of hard drives for a 1u so I can test it for a longer period to be certain it’s a viable longterm solution.
