Movie Updates

Apologies for this. The title actually has been updated three times recently. We are working on some encoder improvements and this is one of the titles that we started with. The update notification is automated but we're looking at suppressing them for incremental improvements that are good to have in the library but don't create a significant user-visible change that would warrant downloading an updated version.
Gotcha. Looking forward to the improvements on the encoder side! Two titles that I would HIGHLY recommend for something like this would be Blade Runner 2049 as it still looks a bit off compared to the disc and the metadata needs to be updated and 1917, which still has some issues that could be addressed in the image.

So, (mostly) good news. We have recently made changes to our headend software. The headend used to base its understanding of the discs you own on the inventory uploaded by your system. That inventory is updated fairly frequently, so if you did a disc-to-digital purchase and then deleted the disc version from your system to clean things up, the headend would quickly lose track of the fact that you own the disc.

As of the recent changes, the headend preserves knowledge of your discs even if you remove them from your system. This means that going forward, you won't need to worry about having to stick the disc back in the system if an offer becomes available. This is especially valuable for customers who may be in a situation, say, where a disc-based system experiences a component failure. Since this is the sort of scenario that often prompts people to update to a download-based system, not losing the records of disc ownership greatly reduces the hassle of making the conversion to downloaded movies.

There's an important caveat here. This change applies to discs that were on your system when the headend software was updated (which was March 10 of this year). Unfortunately, it was not possible to retroactively record discs that had been removed prior to that date.
Hi Mike,

Forgive me for what is probably a redundant question, but I'm new here and just want to make sure I clearly understand what you're saying. :)

I have a Strato S and I've borrowed an M700 from a friend to catalog my discs. I've been keeping the disc version of each movie in my library until I do the D2D upgrade. I don't always upgrade immediately depending on if/when I might want to watch a particular movie again, and I don't delete the disc version from my library until after I've upgraded it.

Are you saying that as of now, I can just catalog all my discs *and* delete the disc version from my library (to de-clutter the listings), and then in the future I'm still able to take advantage of D2D offers for those cataloged/deleted discs?

Thanks!

That's right. You shouldn't catalog it and delete it immediately afterwards, because the system needs a chance to upload its inventory to the headend. Let me double-check what a safe interval would be.

My DV-700 at least recently (I got it a few months ago) allows me to "Eject" and separately to "Delete" - so if I do not "Delete" I can have the movie removed from the DV-700 but its catalog remains in my on screen and on computer list of movies.

Yes but it will also take up room on the hard drive while now you don’t have the disc in the vault, you can’t initiate playback either.

If we're talking about MXTs Strato and vault, there's no importing so no harm.

Did you get a confirmation Mike?

Thank you for the reminder. The system tries to upload inventory as soon as possible after you import or catalog a disc. Within an hour, it's almost certainly there, but if you waited a day you could be quite sure. If you were cataloging a number of discs, one approach you could take would be to pick one that you're quite sure has disc to digital pricing available (we show this on the web movie store in the details sheet), and catalog that one last. Once you see that movie's price update on the store, you'll know that all of the movies you've cataloged have made it to the store.

Thanks Mike. I am mid process now and it does appear to do most fairly promptly but I have noticed a couple ‘appearing’ later or the following morning which ties up with your post. One that was delayed had asked for ‘more info’ but didn’t appear to recognise the that data, throwing an error. I left it and in the morning it was recognised. Will post more comment after completion but going pretty well so far bar the disk jams. Thanks

The Contractor (2022) in HD from Paramount Pictures updated from DTS-HD Master 5.1 to DTS-HD Master 7.1
When can we get the HD 7.1 into the 4k version?

I'm relatively new to Kaleidescape. Do updates happen automatically or do we have to manually do them? I see audio for The Northman has been upgraded. I purchased it when it first came out - so do I need to do something or will K just upgrade it on its own?
