Hard to believe it, but as of May 29, the forum will have been running (essentially) nonstop for 15 years. While by any measure of "online community", we're still a tiny little group, but we've continued to grow members and usage every year.

It all started with this post over on AVS Forum in July, 2006, to gauge the interest in having a dedicated Kaleidescape forum. With a handful of people saying they'd try it out, i taught myself enough Unix to get an early version of the system running and opened it up. Oof, was it ugly... (see here), but it worked and people actually started joining and contributing.

Some fun facts:
  • Total of 39,124 posts
  • 4,072 separate topics/threads
  • 1,899 registered members. We get about 16,000 unique visitors/month, but most visitors stay anonymous and don't register for an account.
  • 73 members currently have active premium (paid) memberships, including >50% of our most-active users.
    • THANK YOU to these generous members who contribute to the not-insignificant costs of running this board! I honestly couldn't do this without the support of our Premium and Patron users! If you'd like to learn more about the benefits of joining, visit this page.
  • Earliest user still active on the forum today: @carajo, who joined on June 7, 2006. Jim @cinelife is the 2nd-oldest, still active (now that's an understatement!) member who joined a few weeks later in July '06.
  • Most posts: (no suspense here!): @cinelife with 4,239 posts! @JohnJ is getting up there with an amazing 2,564. @JerryL, @Kostas, and @Mr.Poindexter round out the >1K posts club.
Special thanks, as always, go to Jim @cinelife, who spends an incredible portion of his time with helping forum members and answering questions, both in public posts and with countless private messages and phone calls. This board would have died years ago without Jim!

Hope to still be here in another 15 years!
Thanks to all of you for being a part of this little community.

Hear! Hear! Second all of that. Part of my “sales pitch” for K is this forum/community. Reminds me of the old VMware/virtualisation community circa 2010 🤓🏆😎🤩 diamonds.

A sincere THANK YOU to both Josh and Jim for doing such a great job keeping the forum going all this time, and for being such truly amazing individuals. I was a daily lurker for a couple of the early years before joining back in 2009 and it’s been a fun ride ever since. Even though I moved on from K during the shutdown, I still love my system and look forward to checking into the forum almost daily to see what everyone is up to and what I still have to learn. Thanks to everyone here who contributes.

Cheers,
Andy

Thanks guys, and nice post Josh, but none of us would be here without YOU!!! Your friendship over the years is one of my most important, and it's ironic that we've actually only met in person once, in Vegas for a CES!! Goes to show you how social media impacts our lives!!

Josh gave us some facts, so I'll share one as well. Some of you may remember Josh "turning the forum over to me a few years back." He was very busy at the time, and needed to focus on other things so he basically "gave" me the forum. He had planned to turn over all of the forum admin to me as well, and he was going to step back and visit on occasion as a regular Member. My wife overheard that conversation, asked what that meant, and I remember telling her "Josh thinks he's leaving, but he isn't going anywhere, he just doesn't know it yet." :)

It was easy to play dumb regarding Forum admin....because I was (and that hasn't changed), so that was my excuse, keep him around to help me learn all the usual Forum functions, bill paying, etc., which of course I never did. When you create something like this, it's very difficult to just walk away and let some idiot ruin all your hard work, so I figured he'd eventually come to realize some very important points:

1. He has always been needed, and I'm very grateful he stayed.
2. Regardless of what he thinks, this is and always has been HIS forum. We may have morphed into a partnership of sorts, but Josh is responsible for all of this, and the Forum wouldn't exist without him.
3. I'm still an idiot....so he cannot leave....

Thanks for EVERYTHING Josh!!

Jim

Thanks for the kind words, and Jim your post was so funny and so touching (and 100% true), that I had to have my wife read it. She's still chuckling about it.
I've enjoyed doing this, and yeah, i'm not great at walking away from things. you should see my garage.

Absolutely love the fact that I found this forum and the service you guys provide. And for further context, I wouldn’t be the owner of a single piece of Kaleidescape equipment if it wasn’t for this forum as I felt it was out of reach and unless dealing with a high end dealer you don’t come across it. I have done almost all of my A/V, automation, etc myself and this forum made it obvious that I didn’t need to bring someone in to add it to my system.

Since then purchased two new stratos, about 350 movies from the store, and also purchased a used Alto, DV700, and 1U system. So to say it has become integral is an understatement.

Not only did Josh stay around BUT when we were having issues with the old forum he stepped up and created this new Forum 2.0! We now have lots of new features which we didn’t have.

Thanks Josh and Jim for ALL you do!

John

That's awesome to hear! Congrats on your system, which I'm guessing is all the more enjoyable because you researched, bought, installed, and configured it yourself. Glad that the forum members were a helpful resource!

Just to echo what’s been mentioned above.
In my opinion, forum members here make up a great community that I’m glad to be part of. The guys are knowledgeable, respectful, helpful and tap into the pulse of all things happening with K - good and bad.
Above all, there is no ridiculous spamming or negativity. if there is, I’m sure Jim & Josh take care of it.
Here’s looking forward to another 15 years of kscapeowners 🍻

Thank you Josh. This board has been a phenomenal resource for the Kaleidescape community.

One GREAT usability of this forum is to check out what is happening - 'when one is overseas'.
You cannot see anything on the K Site when you are in certain countries BUT you can always come to this forum see what new movies are being released sales etc.
Thanks for hosting this... its numbers will continue to grow as K grows and their new management brings more accessible products to the market.

Wow guys I just noticed this. I get the prestigious honor of being the earliest active member ! I even beat Jim cinelife!!
I would also like to mention to that I’m an original founding member at remotecentral. That was before the kscape days

Jim is one of the most honest, straightforward people I have never met! It is through this website that I met my friend.

Thank you Josh for your hard work keeping this group of Av enthusiasts together. I don’t post much but always lurking. Hope to see you all here over the next 15 years.

cheers

So many here, especially me, agree!

Thanks Mike! You've been a member here since 12/31/2009 (!!) so you're definitely in the O.G. club here! And, with nearly 300 posts... you're far more than just a lurker.

Thank you! and THANKS for becoming a PATRON supporter of the site. That means a lot, and helps this keep running.

Wow 2009 was a while ago! I had just purchased a dealer demo unit having had read about the company in some Av magazine. K has evolved a lot since then but the fantastic movie experience remains unchanged. That’s why I continue to give Jim, I mean K, my money ;)

Thanks for the kind words guys! (Underserved, but thank you.)

Jim
