Slow releases

Hi guys, movies on apple tv and every other platform would usually be the same digital release date, I cant find any of the new releases from this past few days on kscape store. Did something change?

The one thing I have noticed is that more of the major studios have added rental options on new releases that has pushed out the actual release date for purchase (“The Secret Garden”, “The Silencing”, etc.).

There are also a number of the smaller studios releasing films that take a little longer to get released on the Store Or studios that are not on the Store yet (Film Movement, Premiere).

John

While there may be some early release exceptions from time to time (that's a studio decision), K is currently a purchase only outlet. They will get the content on the purchase release date, so if waiting is not an option, expect to rent from one of the others while you wait for the purchase release (assuming you'll still want to purchase after seeing the movie).

For example, "The tax collector" own it for 14.99 rent for 6.99 in 4k on every other digital marketplace but its nowhere to be found on kscape store. 6 months ago I would be able to preorder and watch it exactly at the same time it was everywhere else. I'd expect at least to be able to purchase at the same time its on every other marketplace. This is the whole point I got a strato over buying bluray discs. I sure hope they find a way to work around this. Being able to pre-order a movie and find it already downloaded and ready to watch on digital release date was awesome.

I agree, those examples are a bit perplexing, given you can own or rent, but this may be another example of the difference in contracts between studios and vendors, not sure.

Surely a strange time for all studios. Lots of one offs which might not be repeated depending on the theater situation. Given the size of K and the target audience, I doubt they would be a top priority. Who knows! SJ

I am one that as long as all the major releases from all the major studios are released on time, then I am a little more forgiving of the smaller studios getting released on K a little bit later than on other digital platforms. However, I do want it released prior to when it is available on disc in the same resolution. “The Tax Collector” (Image Entertainment/ RLJ Entertainment) is scheduled for release on disc on 6 October 2020 and only in HD. So for me, I am can overlook that it is a little late.

But I understand that there are others who are not as forgiving and want these titles as soon as they are released on other digital platforms. I also think that this deficiency is even more noticeable due to the paucity of new releases from the major studios!

It sure would be nice to get back to “normal” of that is possible.

"Mad Max" was added in 4K SDR since day one

@mhbernheim Resolution upgrades were rarely on preorder. I can remember one or two. As soon as K receives above in 4K and process them they will pop up as "New to the Store" movies.
This COVID situation is not helping. i.e. Vudu has only 10 movies on preorder.

I couldve seen all those new movies on itunes a year ago via kscape in their digital bit for bit perfect format. Something is off. Is it covid?

this looks like that old movie rental place in the late 90s at the end of the street:

Not sure I understand this part of your comment "on itunes a year ago via kscape in their digital bit for bit perfect format"

I personally like it(I grew up in the 80's this may explain why) but if you don't like it, totally your right, why don't you exclusively use iTunes ?
BTW the interface is very similar to the Movies Anywhere one...

Because I paid for bit for bit perfect copies not streaming quality. I havent watched any movies mentioned in my post in any other platform. Itunes doesnt come close to kscape quality. Im saying that the main reason was that I paid for a kscape strato is 1) perfect copies of the movie 2) release times (did not want to want for bluray disc)

Howdy folks,

Speaking generally, nothing has changed. However, the whole COVID-19 situation has caused a certain amount of chaos as you are well aware, and this has affected normal release schedules, including for a number of the titles you've mentioned. We're working through that with our licensors and I think you can expect to see progress.
