Star Wars Movie Sale

I'm in. Just bought all 11. Downloading now... :)

bought them all too.

a lot of people without K systems weren’t too happy when i shared the news of those great prices. An awful lot of negativity on the system and nitpicking. Guess they weren’t happy lol. But I was.

I was on the fence about buying Star Wars...AGAIN! But watched Empire the other night....WOW! My full review here: https://www.cineluxe.com/kaleidescape-empire-strikes-back/

nice write up again. In the same boat. Seen Star Wars too many times lol. VHS. Widescreen vhs. Special editions. Laserdisc. White cover Japanese laserdisc (still my fav for the theatrical cut). VCD. Blu. Vhd. Uhd. iTunes. Sky. Dvd. Kaleidescape now my preferred.

Do you run the 4k Collective Twitter by chance?

I had received the 4k disc set as a gift earlier this year. We sat down to watch the first movie last night, Phantom Menace (brutal I know....) but I was surprised at the lack of consistency in the 4k disc through several of the scenes. I have a Sony 885es and there appeared to be some fairly blurry scenes and/or resolution differences through the movie....and I don’t think it was all alcohol induced!!!
All that to say, I assume would it be expected that the Kscape movies be a direct copy of these recent 4k discs?

Given the relative file sizes I would doubt it. AFAIK Kscape do their own encodes from raw files.

Did a little more digging and it does certainly appear that there are definite recognized/published resolution issues with the movie (at least according to blu-ray.com) but the soundtrack is solid (which it did certainly appear to be.). Would be interesting to get some comparative feedback on the Kscape version if they were either able to prevent some of the glaring resolution change ups or if the master files are only able to be “polished” so much.

As mentioned, a Kaleidescape download is processed by Kaleidescape. It is not the same asset placed on disc. That said, they process from something called a mezzanine file. So while the processing is unique, most likely disc, Kaleidescape, and even streaming can trace the original video point back to some common original scan or master of a given film (based on my assumption).

I don't have the discs so can't compare but just be aware that the special $13.99 pricing is only available for a limited time(1 more day I guess).

I’ve owned every prior version of these (VHS, Laserdisc twice with the SE, DVD, Bluray, K HD). Watched the 4K version of Empire and it was spectacular. Great job Disney!

Well, you talked me into downloading the collection from K vs using the discs in the 4k Skywalker saga box set.
